VS200XP
Simply simple, strong quality to fish for a lifetime in any surf conditions
Well built
Awesome reel lives up to its name
Beast of a reel
I purchased the Van Staal VS200BXP from Tackle Direct in November 2018 - since then, I've put it through an absolute beating and its performed flawlessly.
Outside of the largest stripers, the VS200 is a bit more power than you'd need in the surf in the northeast. However, it's been great for trips to Cabo San Lucas targeting roosters.
It's not as smooth as…

a saltiga or stella, but what it lacks in smoothness it makes up for in being pretty much bomb proof - a tradeoff I'm happy to make. I've dunked it more time than I can count, laid it in sand... it does not seem to care.
4 Stars instead of 5 only because the stock handle should be better... but if paired with the Van Staal Power Grip Handle Knob...chefs kiss
Battle AXE of the surf
This reel is the work horse for the true surf fisherman, no bells and whistles, cranks like a coffee grinder until it gets broken in, but it is the field tested no fail sealed reel out there.
Great Reel!
Amazing waterproof reel! VS150 is great size for the beach fishing I do not think its too heavy and casts great.
Hands down best reel on the market
These reels are absolute brutes they can handle just about anything you hook on the other side of the line
Pricey But worth it
Love the reel hate the price
Nothing compares
Simply one of the best reels out there. Extremely durable, easy to use and can take any beating you throw at it. If your serious about surf casting, this is the reel you need. It will outlast every other competitor
Excellent reel!!
Great workmanship went into this reel! Very tough fished with it all fall here in Cape Breton on some harsh conditions, fishing off rocks and long hikes. A fresh water hose bath after every use is all that's needed .
VS200BXP
IMO best reel for surf casting. Reliable and bullet proof.
Worth every dime...
I have used other reels wade fishing
The first time you dunk them its over,
Took me a while to spend the $$$$. Now I have 4, so when spend the money think of it as a long term investment and well worth it...
Best All-Around Spinning Reel
VS150BXP is a work horse! Every saltwater angler should have this in their arsenal. This reel, paired with a 7ft spinning rod, proved itself time and time again against gator bluefish and cow striped bass.
Never a doubt in my mind that this reel could conquer any fish that took the line.
The best ever, bar none.
Been surf fishing all my life, now retired on North Padre Island, and have daily access to the Padre Island National Seashore, one of the top surf fishing locations in the world, 60 miles of driving access to totally non-commercialized seashore. The Van Staal, third one in my tackle, is the only way to go. Handles any and all that takes the hook. As my father told me, only costs…

a little bit more to go first class. Van Staal is first class.
Thanks to my wife for getting me this for Christmas, and she enjoys hers too.
Nothing yet. They are concentrating on getting the "usual" sizes out on the market.

Yes, you can use the VS 150 spool on the VSX 150. However, you MUST use the VSX drag knob. The VS drag knob will not work due to the increased length of the shaft.
The best reel to pair with this rod would be the Van Staal VS150XP VS X-Series Spinning Reel.<p style="margin-top:10px;margin-bottom:10px;font-family:arial, verdana, sans-serif;f
You will get roughly 342 yards of that braid onto the reel.Â
The Van Staal Bailess 250 will be the better fit for your rod.Â
There is a slight difference in size between the reels
The anodized finish does not really chip, but it will certainly scratch if dropped on rocks or other hard surfaces. The silver color does hide blemishes better since the metal underneath the anodizing is a silverish color. As far as rust, that should neve
Yes it is. A 200 or 250 will work.Â
They do not make right hand retrieveÂ
The maximum drag capacity of the VS150 is 32.0
The VSX models we only carry in L/H. The VS 150 is available in black and R/H.
Van Staal does not provide a maximum drag rating, but the reel has a strong drag system that is more than sufficient for any 30 to 40 lb. braid class applications. The line laying issues with the VS have been addressed in the VS X-Series. The VS X-Serie

Normally they come in the individual box they where shipped in from China, they blue packing tape will be unbroken, the only way the seal on a box would be broken is one if it was in the show case, or two taken out of the box to be spooled.
Van Staal does not publish the max drag for the VSX reels. The original VS series put out #30+ of drag. Van Stall is saying that the new VSX is capable of more and smoother.
