Awesome reel!
Its super smooth and very nice for the money. You cant go wrong with this. Used it for Striper fishing with a surf reel and it does the job well!
Strong but slow
this reel is very strong, the drag doesnt give them an inch. the only problem with it is that it has a very slow retrieve. it is super smooth and strong, but i feel like i am reeling forever to come back in.
also it does not hold a ton of line
Awesome reel
Have used my 6k in the canal, Jersey and the keys. Never fails, tank of a reel with tons of drag.
Salt X
Best fishing reel I ever bought. It's light and the drag system is great.
Great reel
Although a little stiff at first this reel performs flawlessly for use in the surf.
A tank!!
hundreds of hard fighting YT and YFT on the SaltX, still as strnong and smooth as day 1.
Good reel but not really sealed
Fished in south shore Long Island for last fall season, dumped couple times in rough surf, sand and water stuck in the reel, have to dip the reel in the water to free it up. Opened the reel after season over, found water inside the reel. Send back for service, they change a lot of parts (Listed) and it's free under warranty for one year. Don't know how good the seals going to be,… read more will test this coming season. Overall it's good reel but not really sealed like Van Staal VS.
Nice reel
This reel has plenty of drag. It's good for surf fishing. I used it on a skiff, fishing in the bay. Pulled up a 10lb stingray with no issue. Since the system is sealed system. it's more snug when you reel. Also come with a carrying case. I have more expensive reels and non of them have a carrying case.
Line lay issues
I have had issues with this reel from the beginning. As another reviewer mentioned, I experienced the reel "seize up" on several occasions. Lay line issues. Had it re-spooled at the shop 3 times. Wind knots every outing. ( I know, user error right?) Never had a wind knot with any of my set ups before this. Very disappointing, as this was my first higher end reel and there's… read more been nothing but issues.
Nice reel, lite and strong
reel works like it should good drag, casts and winds great what more could you want
Stay away from this reel
I purchased a Tsunami SaltX 4000 in early 2020. Since then Ive fished It 15-20 times on the beaches of Rhode Island. The first thing I noticed was the reel did not come with any tools, as they all should. No big deal, however this reel has had nothing but issues since day one. It locked (seized) up after being lightly splashed in the surf causing me to have to cut and put a backup…

reel on (Penn SSV4500) Since then Its been throughly cleaned and every time ANY amount of water hits the reel, it would make a very loud screeching sound followed by clunking. Its had oscillation issues as well, the line lay is the worst Ive ever seen in any reel. So far its been in the shop ( local shop in Rhode Island ) twice for service/ complete line strip & re spool only to get constant wind knots with absolutely everything I throw. While pencil popping I felt a bang, only to looked down to realize that the bail screw had backed itself out and came off falling into the water. Im sure the shop will not return the reel being that is it now used. Im hesitant to put it on Facebook market place l as the next owner is just going to be buying a flawed reel.
Update 2021*
Bimini Bay shipped me a new 4K & within the second time in the surf it SIEZED, they then put me in contact with a local Tsumani Rep who switched it out YET again for another model, this time a black 4K ( maybe the color will make a difference?!?! ) I immediately had line lay issues and washed my hands of them completely. Got a Slammer 3 & has thus far been bullet proof for me.
Very impressed with how Tsunami (Bimini bay) handled the situation from start to finish. I think what it comes down to is poor quality control, some guys get what seem to be solid units while others like myself got some duds.
Do yourself a favor & stick to tsunami rods, not their reels.
Overall Reel quality 4/10
Customer service 10/10
Produced a squeaking sound
I bought a saltx 4000, it was good at first, smooth. After half a season it produced a squeaking sound. I didnt even submerge it, and i rinsed it every after use. I will open the reel, and see if there are any water intrusion.
Not made for the Cape Cod Canal
This reel was definitely not field tested in any condition near the ones fished in the Cape Cod Canal. Went through two in a week (1 replacement) and the spring that is in the drag system popped off when any big fish would take a run.
On top of that, the reel went from being smooth to grainy mid fight on my 3rd fish using the reel (this happened on my replacement reel). I…

had issues with the spring and the drag with both reels.
Hello James,

This reel weighs 14.6 ounces. Tight lines!

That information is not available yet. If it is a truly sealed reel then you shouldn't be able to switch the handle.
This reel is fully sealed
We haven't heard that there will be one in the works for a bailess kit
Not that we've heard yet
This is slightly larger then a 5000 series shimano reel.
Some of the specs are TBD from the manufacture.
Hi Bob, The Tsunami Salt X 6000 would pair great with a Lamiglas 9ft Medium action surf rod. However since it's currently sold out I would also recommend a Penn SLAIV4500 Slammer IV Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-slaiv450
Hi Alexis, A 9ft surf rod will work with a Tsunami Salt X 6000 but it may be a little heavy for that small of a rod. I would recommend a 10ft surf spinning rod which will balance the Tsunami Salt X 6000 reel a little better. https://www.ta
These are made in China.
I dont believe these handles are interchangeable with Evict models
Line specs on the 4000 are TBA the 6000 will hold about 380 yards of 50lb braid
The STX6000 is the way to go. More casting ability, more stopping power.
The 4000 size will hold roughly 200 yards of 40lb braid.
The Tsunami SaltX 6000 with 30-40lb Power Pro Super Slick V2 will give you the best casting and strength combo for your setup. It will work great on a 10'6" rod.
33.5" on the 4000 and 38" on the 6000.
The Salt X 4000 weighs 14.6 ounces. The 6000 weighs 18.0 ounces.
Its a bushing. Easy to service versus a bearing that would have to be replaced if failed.
I would recommend going with the 4000 on the 9ft rod and 6000 on the 10ft
You can switch the handle on the 4000 like the 6000 and the capacity of the 4000 is roughly 420 yds of 15lbs braid.
We are currently taking pre-orders for this reel. We are expecting shipments in April.
19oz's
Yes the 4000 Saltx would be ideal on a 9ft triumph
We have yet to ship the 4000 salt X to our customers.
The 6000 weighs 19 oz's the 4000 we are waiting for more specs on that reel

We are currently still waiting for these reels to come in so were not sure if the handle can be replaced and if there is a replacement knob. The only eta available is the end of November
The 4000 will have a power handle

That information is not yet available to us.
The 6000 would pair nicely with a 10ft 6" rod.
The 4000 would be a good choice but it really depends on what rod, what species your targeting.
That would have to be purchased through Tsunami
