Bought 2 of these combos. Great rod with serious backbone. Great for large flounder, big tog and sea bass. My go to rod for the boat!

Very good combo for fluke

Used for the 1st time yesterday, going after Tautog. The bite up here is still on the cool side. I was impressed with the rod action, and the reel was flawless.

Good feel

Great combo for the price. Rod is real sensitive, can easily feel fish picking on a bait. Cork grips are nice, a tad short on the butt.
Reel is perfect for fluking. Clicker is loud.

Nice outfit good price

This was a good buy for a species specific outfit. The Tackle Direct rod was nice and light and sensitive enough to let you know a fluke was interested. The reel was what you would expect from Shimano, that is great quality and well constructed to withstand the salt water conditions. Not such a great buy at $199 but a bargain at $149. I may get another as backup or to fish a different read more bait with the other in the water.

Only available in a right hand retrieve.

I know this is silly I'm thinking about buying the Shimano for my Husband. Does it come with line already on the reel?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

It doesn't however mono line is always free when purchasing a reel with us and if you would like braid we can spool that for free but the braid has to be purchased.

Is the action of this rod well suited for bucktailing for fluke?

This rod should perform well bucktailing for fluke but may be a little on the stiff side if typically using bucktails lighter than 2oz.
The rod action is perfect for bucktails 2oz and up

Will this be a good setup to use for black fish as well thanks

Devon 7 years ago

This combo would work for Blackfish but you may want to consider a heavier rod if you using weights above 6 oz.
