Shimano Tyrnos Saltwater Trolling Reels feature an open top crossbar design and Shimanos stainless steel A-RB anti-rust bearings. Other key features designed primarily for trolling are a ratcheting lever drag to eliminate any lever movement caused by boat vibration and a loud clicker with enough ten...sion to hold large baits. Additional features include oversized gears for power while maintaining a high-speed 5.0:1 gear ratio and an extra long handle shank with an oversized ergonomic rubber power grip. Shimano Tyrnos reels are constructed with diecast aluminum frames and graphite sideplates to reduce weight while maintaining strength and durability.

Great Reel at a Great Price
Didn't really want to go all out and spend a ton of money on a bunch of Talicas or Tiagras. This is a great compromise. Handle is extremely comfortable, drag is smooth, and I feel a lot better having a metal housing, which is why I skipped past the TLD and went with the Tyrnos. I use these reels for trolling and they've proven to be great reels for the money.
Tyr3011
Great product smooth great price highly recommend
Workhorse power Reel!!!
Bought this one for the YF Tuna season spooled up with 80 lbs Power pro.
Solid reel
This reel is solid, two speed reel can manage almost anything offshore you throw at it. From Tuna to Wahoo, Marlin and everything in between. Paired with a 30-65 rod, 65 braid with a 50 mono topshot is the ticket!!
Conventional
great performing reel with good drag. Solid body and feels very nice.
Love these reels
Ratcheting guide plates. Regal look to them. Plenty of drag. Just all around nice reels with plenty of stopping power if you need it.
Grouper & RED SNAPPER
This will pull any grouper are red snapper off the bottom just down shift to low gear and crank,
will be buying another two speed soon from tackle direct.
TLD upgrade
Bought this over a TLD 30II, same drag pressure, slightly different gear ratio than the TLD. For $60 more dollars to have a metal body reel with the same performance features of a TLD. Waiting for the wind to die down so I can try to out.
Great all-around reel
I bought the Shimano Tyrnos for the bluefin/yellowfin tuna bite that's been happening off Southern California and I was very pleased with this reel. Simple enough by design, strong and powerful it works well with flylining bait and is a good caster. Had a chance to jig some flatfalls and the reel is very functional and smooth in this regard.
Nice reels
Very light smooth fast action reels,When used properly the fish don't have a chance.
Please make them in 80,wide two speed.
Great trolling reels
Great reel to troll with better than a tld but not too expensive.
TYR50iiLRS
Look great , will be fishing them in the spring of 2016
THE most bulletproof light tackle saltwater reel ever made
we fish these with 25 pound mono for kite fishing sailfish, kingfish, dolphin and more, they cannot be beat, good drag curve, and flawless performance.
Tyrnos 12
I have the Tynos 12, and it's a nice reel. It's pretty heavy, but it definately has some power and a nice drag. It also casts pretty well for a reel of that size, but personally, I mostly use it when its in a rod holder most of the day while trolling niner rigs for stripers.
Tyrnos 8 and 12 2 speed
i have both the 8 and 12 in 2 speed and they are great reels i use the 8 for striper chunking and the 12 for inshore shark fishing in nj
They are only available in right hand
From what I gather on the MAsheer this reel would be way to big but if you want to stay with convetional setups the Shimano torium 16hga would be a good choice.Another reel I would look at would be the Shimano tranX 500hg

The Shimano TYR30II Tyrnos Fishing Reel would be a good reel for trolling in at the Husdon Canyon for tuna. The Shimano Terez Casting and the Shimano Tallus Bluewater Casting rods would be great rods to pair with the Shimano TYR30II Tyrnos Fishing Reel. T
The Tyrnos 20II will work for Striped Marlin and Mahi. However, the Talica 16II would be perfect. It has plenty of line capacity, more drag than the Tyrnos, and weighs 12oz less.
The "recommended" rod for this reel depends on your application and what you are fishing for. To help us give you a recommendation, can you give us more information about what you are fishing for and how?
The drag used is generally set at 1/3 of the breaking strength of the line within reason and capacities of reel and rod.
The Shimano Tallus Bluewater model TLC66MHBBR (SHM-2432), would be a great rod to pair with that reel.
You should be able to fit 500 yards of 80#.
The Trynos 30 will hold 300+ yds of 50lb mono line. We do not have any pieces of flourocarbon, but if you buy a spool we can attach the leader for you.
This reel has plenty of drag and a high gear ratio making it a great reel for Halibut fishing.
You will be able to pack on between 600-650 yards of 100lb Power Pro on the TYR30II.
