The B-side sideplate is all one piece contributing to both rigidity and in-the-hand palming comfort. The A-side sideplate has the handle drag adjustment and cast control knob.E.I.: This is the second layer of surface treatment that is added after the anodizing process. Shimano Torium
Grat smooth durable reel
Best budget jigging reel
This reel is great I have two of the 16pga one on a goofish slow pitch jigging rod and one on a custom bottom fishing rod the drag could be better as Im not a fan of the star drag but still love the reel
Great reel for the money
Love Shimano products Great reel for the money
Durable
This is my first conventional reel and i'm loving it.
Great Tog Reel
Bought this reel to team up with the Jigging World Black Demon as my go to Tog set up. It performed beautifully on my PB Tog so far 8#. This was boated in 120 feet of water on a big tug wreck and the reel had the power to pull it out of the rubble
Thank you
Solid little reel
decided to get a couple of these for nearshore use on snapper in 100 ft of water. the drag is perfectly capable, easy to use for anyone from beginner to expert.
Smooth Reel
Smooth cranking reel, smooth drag, and comfortable power handle.
Bullet proof
Everything from 650' drops for Halibut to fly lining sardines this gets it done easily.
Awesome Reel
From trolling for kings, jigging for cobia, or bottom fishing for snapper, this reel does it all.
Everything you would expect quality wise from a Shimano reel. Extremely fast shipping from tackle direct!
Fantastic Value. Fantastic Jigging Reel
I've owned a second-hand torium 16PG for over a year now and have caught yellowfin tuna up to 70lb on it as well as some sharks in the 80-90lb range with no issues. I love it for slow jigging. I recently bought a torium 14HG from tackledirect and love it even more. It holds 990' of 50lb jbraid- the spool is a little overfilled but 900' would be perfect. The drag is plenty to handle… read more large red snapper, grouper, and medium sized tuna. It fits in my hand easily and the handle is comfortable. I like it much better than the valiant terns and valiant narrows that my friends use. Highly recommend.
Good fishing reel
Good quality fishing reel
Torium
Nice reel, going to use it on a slow pitch rod. Star drag seemed a bit loose, sent it to Shimano just to check and its in spec.
You could...definitely for the smaller inshore tuna.
In terms of power and capability, pairing the Shimano Torium with a St. Croix Mojo Salk will provide you with a strong and reliable setup that can be used from the wrecks, to the canyons, perfect for jigging and bottom fishing.
Yes, that is true.
The rod I would recommend using with the Torium 16 would be the Shimano Terez 7' M or the Shimano Trevala 6'6'' M for the style of fishing your doing.
The Shimnao Torium does have the free spool adjustment for throwing jigs that size range.
Yes. The left handed models in the Torium have an "L" at the end of the model number. Each reel is also noted as Left or Right hand retrieve in the far right column of the order chart.
The Shimano Torium Star Drag Reels can be used for jigging, live bait and bottom fishing.
The Torium 16 would be a good choice for Cod fishing in the NE.
The Shimano Tallus Blue Water Saltwater Conventional Rods would be a good match with the Shimano Torium 30 for the style of fishing you will be doing.
Hello Chris. This reel does not have a braking system.
Maurice, This reel comes with 3 ball bearings and 1 roller bearing, and the gears are made of solid brass.
Wes, I would recommend Torium 20 for 50 lbs line. It has more than enough line capacity for what you are trying to do.
For a moderately priced option, I would recommend going with the St. Croix MSWC70MHF Mojo Salt Conventional Rod. This rod is MH power and would be a great overall grouper/bottom fishing rod. It would have the backbone you need to get fish out of heavy str
Very little difference between the two, just a wider spool on the 30 for more line capacity. Probably best to go with the 30 to increase your line capacity if you plan on using for tuna in addition to bottom fishing.
Yes this model will be fine for this fishing application, it would make for a light, fun reel for these fish. I would recommend going up to the PG model, it just provides a little more stopping power and back bone as well as a larger power handle.
https
I would recommend going with the Torium14, it can hold up to 370yds or 50# braid and should make a comfortable pairing to bottom fish all day long
It depends what you're fishing for but a good general size would be the Torium16HG or PG model if you want a power handle style reel
This is an excellent casting reel, however im not sure the spool dimensions for this reel as Shimano does not provide those specs.
This reel is a very versatile reel however is is generally designed for bottom or live bait fishing

I would go with the 20HGA or the 30HGA. Either reel would supply the torque and power you'd need to fish heavy structure.
Overall, the main difference between the 16HGA and the 20HGA is that the 20 has a larger spool and thus, more line capacity. Other than that, both reels are very similar in terms of weight, max drag, and gear ratio. The 6'6" MH Trevala should match up nic
Either reel would pair well with this rod. The only real difference between the 16 and 20 is that the 20 has greater line capacity. Other than that, the specs on these reels are almost identical.
I would go with the Shimano Terez 7' MH.

https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-terez-conventional-fishing-rods.html

These are the same reels, just different names for different regions.
Hi Kenn, I would recommend the Penn FTH15XNLD2LH Fathom Lever Drag 2-Speed Reel. This reel can has alot of line capacity, has over 30lbs of drag, and would be great for working jigs between 40grams - 200grams. Please let us know if theres anything e

You can pair a Torium with a 12 foot surf rod
The 16 or 20 depending on how much line you want
The TOR16HGAL would be your best choice, pretty much the same reel except the 20 has a larger line capacity and is a oz heavier.
Either a 400 size Daiwa Lexa or a 500 size Shimano TranX paired with a 10' 6" St.Croix Mojo surf casting MSC106MHMF2
The Torium in the 30 size should pair up with the Shimano Teramar.
The spool width is 1 3/4 inches
The handle would be on the right side.
Hello Doug,

Just the length of the spool and not the side plates on the Shimano Torium 40 measures 1 7/8 inches

Hi Mickey, The Shimano Torium 30 is rated to hold 1015 yds of 50lbs Power Pro Spectra Braid as per Shimano's factory Specs. Please let us know if there's anything else you may need assistance on! Tight Lines!
The power handle would have to be purchased through Shimano as we don't carry it.
Hi Brian, The main differences are 1) Shimano's S-Compact Body: the B-side plate is much smaller and more manageable for anglers to palm the reel so that they can control the fish in critical situation, 2) E.I. Technology which is a second additiona

Doruk,
The Shimano Torium Star Drag TOR30HGA will work well for the species you are targeting on the troll. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Luis,
The Shimano Torium 16 would be a good reel for the type of fishing you are looking to do. The rod that would pair up nicely would be the Shimano Terez TCZ70M. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Blake,
Using the Torium for bottom fishing I would recommend braid between 20 and 65 lb depending on the size of the reel. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Chris,
For shark fishing from the surf, I would recommend either the Torium TOR30PGA (SHM-3546) or TOR40PGA (SHM-4367) to go with the 12 casting rod. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Shaun,
For the type of fishing you are doing, I would recommend the 6.2:1 gear ratio. This will allow you to be able to get the fish off the bottom faster with more inches per turn of the handle. The size of the reel would be based on the rod you are
The 50 has 9.8 more ounces than the 30 and holds much more line. It is considerably larger than the 30.
