Solid reel
I bought this for a 6 St Croix UL Premier. Its a good fit.
Awesome reel!
I have 2 of these reels. They work very good. They have never given me any trouble all. I recommend them to anyone!
STILL THE BEST
BEEN USING SHIMANO SPIREX REELS FOR YEARS. HANDS DOWN, BEST CRAPPIE REEL ON THE PLANET. THE TRIGGER IS MY GO TO FOR CRAPPIE FISHING , YOU JUST CANT BEAT THEM. IVE GOT SEVERAL THAT OVER 15 YEARS OLD STILL BEING USED.
Great Reel
I love these reels for trolling Walleye and casting for LMB and SMB. Awesome casting ability. The trigger makes the ability for multiple quick casts with extreme accuracy.
On the trolling factor, it allows to set up the strike zone, then flipping the drag lever allows to tighten the drag for the fight.
My favorite Shimano is my 37 year old 200Q mounted on my Mitchell…

Tradition Graphite cork handle which I broke the tip off the rod when I put it in the back of that old truck. I still use it today for general and/or under fallen trees/brush.
One of the best
Fishing in Florida, my reels take a beating. I bought the Spirex because of the line cast ability. After years of fishing for bull reds, black drum, and trout, this reel has never let me down. It holds its own against my Fin nor Lethal and Spinfisher VI. The small handle is great for quick casting, but gives up some cranking ability on the bigger fish. It's also a heavier retrieve… read more than similar sized reels. The gears and bearings have held up extremely well also. It's a quirky reel that some people might not like, but I love it and go out of my way to use it often.
Itchy trigger finger?... Problem solved!
Bought the whole set! Was glad to see Shimano was still producing these spinning reels with the Quickfire II trigger release. I got a set of Shimano TX reels with the original Quickfire triggers when I was a kid and fell in love with them. The Spirex series is a very nice upgrade from the discontinued TX models.
Weak stem broken reels
I own 7 reels from shimano 3 are broken 1 is just wore out. i have always loved the quick fire.L astt yr i bought a syncpate only to have its stem snap while landing a 2 lb bass. ok so i replaced it. and it happened again. my next replacement was not shimano. until i see a more sturdy stem i will not waste my money again. these clearly have no strength. both were less than 3… read more lbs. shimano i hope you see this and correct ill miss the quickfire
GOOD LITTLE REEL
although I prefer the rear drag this reel is smooth and strong. I have several in different sizes and all work flawlessly. love the quick release triggers
The test of time!
Had my 4000 real drag for years. Thing still works like it's new. Used for catching pike and smallmouth in Ontario Canada.
Great "BUT"
I have been using these for years because of the "quick fire". I feel I get about 20% more cast in a day and that accounts for more fish. It is a good reel for the price.
Now for the "BUT" part. The frames arm, from the reel to the rod seat, on the 1000 & 2500 class are weak and will twist back and forth on large fish. We have broken several of them on larger fish and…

they will twist and flex back and forth as you try and reel in a larger fish. Just caught 20# King Salmon on a 2500 and thought for sure the reel armature was going to snap off the way it was twisting back and forth. FYI, I was fishing for 5-9# Coho's at the time so I had the correct size reel. Still they need to beef up the arm between the reel ans rod seat.

Love it
I love my new reel and use it just about every day. Smooth and easy.
Shimano 2500 RG
Great reel! I own a couple and they are my go to reels.
The 1000 size reel would be a good ultralight reel
These are brand new reels
Hi John, The Van Staal VR series would be your best option to have the lightest and smallest bailess reel model available. https://www.tackledirect.com/van-staal-vr-series-spinning-reels.html Please let us know if theres anything

Yes this can be switched right to left hand
The power depends more on how you are fishing and what you are fishing for. But, since the reel is a smaller size reel usually it is paired with a 6 ft - 7 ft size rod, with a Ultra Light, Light or Medium power.
The Rear Drag has been discontinued.
The FG models have have the front drag control system and the RG models have the rear drag system.
The Shimano CVSW66M2B Convergence Spinning Rod would pair up nicely with the 4000RG for bass fishing.
Hello Raj! This particular reel can be used for both salt and freshwater applications. Depending on your fishing style and location we can certainly get you set up with the right equipment. Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions!
No. We cannot get these in other colors.
Yes, they are ultra light reels.
Shimano doesn't list that as accessory in their catalog so I am going to say that is not possible.
