I have used this reel for 6 months now and let me say its great for surf fishing, ive caught several small to medium sized sharks and redfish and the reel has yet to show signs of any wear, if you want a good starting reel this is it!

Performs flawless, nice line lay, casts a mile, extremely dependable.
This is my second Shimano Nexave reel.

Arrived brand new! Well package. Just As I expect for the Shimano product.well built and functions for its purpose..Fishing most of it at redondo pier.

Great for the price.I purchased this reel to use as an inshore reel and one that I could also use as a backup for freshwater. The reel is great. It casts smooth and I like the drag. Though the reel handle seems small for a 2500.

This reel is nice if you are on a budget. Very smooth and so far so good. Too early to say how long will it last but so far im very pleased with this reel

Got this reel as a backup to my Spheros 8000. Very smooth operation with plenty of cranking power due to its low gear ratio and trademark Shimano gears. A great purchase for $59.99!

Paired the 1000 with a Fenwick HMX LMF and its performs great for crappies and other panfish.

First week out surf fishing I shot the bearings.
More bearings are on the way from third party.
The 2500 I own I use primarily for the waterway and it takes a dip and it hasnt given me a problem.
Surf fishing is just rough on reels and bearings are not cheap.
I love these reels.

I have fished this reel in the surf almost every day for the past month and a half. It has the typical shimano qualities and is very smooth. I have lost count on how many stripers I have caught with this reel and it has handled them well. For someone who fishes only a few times a month this is a great reel for the price. 3000 and up all have the larger t style handle. 500 and 2500 have the smaller handle as shown

Yes, this reel is rated for saltwater use but it does not have any seals. Not meant to be submerged at all.
