Best reel for salmon/steelhead fishing

I've had tons of baitcasting reels from the original Curado's, Metanium MGL, Daiwa Steez A TW, etc. This reel is just as good as the top ones. Smooth, lightweight, good line capacity, the drag is amazing. Overall, a really really good real that can be used for many types of fishing. The metanium was a little too small for my liking so I sold that and have been using this Curado read more instead and have zero complaints. I did have an issue with one I ordered from another retailer. It came in and the reel wasn't spinning freely. I replaced it and bought one from TD and it is perfect.

The reel is super lightweight and palm very well in my hand. It is a very quality reel and it would be my first choice at this price range

Curado MGL 150 HG and XG

Loved the HG so much that I purchased the XG. I love the form factor, look and feel of this new Curado. It's a little larger than the 70 size but not as big as the 200. Casting is lights out, drag is smooth and strong enough for most applications. Spool is a little wider than the 70 size spools giving me room to thumb the spool easier.

Still getting used to the left hand retrieve although I am right handed I have always used a right hand retrieve but the real itself is extra small cast very well and for the price you can’t beat it

Amazing castability.

I own 2 Curados in 200 size, and they are great reels. I bought the MGL model specifically to fish for Pacific Stripers with 1/4-3/8 oz jigheads and paddletails. I need distance as I fish from shore. The larger reels are good casters but the smaller jigs and tails are just not heavy enough to get out there. I am able to get around 50 yards using the MGL with 10 lb. mono. Nice read more smooth drag as well. Small profile is easy to cup. Excellent reel.

Shimano Curado MGL 150 Baitcasting Reels Questions and Answers

Asked by Dino 3 years ago

Is this suitable in Saltwater?

Brian - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

This reel was designed specifically for freshwater bass fishing, but can be used in light inshore saltwater applications if taken care of properly. Obviously will not want to subject the reel to saltwater spray or submersion.
