Shimano BTR4000C Baitrunner reel

The reel is one of the smoothest bait feeder that I have.

Terrific light reel with all the "Shimano" good

I've been using Shimano 4500 bait runners for years and years. I was looking for a smaller variation, to lighten the load when walking in the woods, in combination with 9 feet rods. This reel is exactly it. After using it for a month, I am very pleased with it and will order a couple more at some point.

If you're looking for an offshore reel that won't break the bank this one is it. I love the baitrunner, very versatile. I've used mine for trolling, throwing live and cut bait. Work horse.

just like the original baitrunner D. Even though it's cheaper than the bait runner D, its just as good.

Amazing

The OC reel is a great reel that withstands lots of punishment. I fish mine every day and just rinse off with fresh water. Multiple seasons it is still smooth.

I love this reel

I bought the 8000 oc for a shark surf rod. I got hooked into 2 this weekend . The 20 lbs of drag wasn't enough causing me to almost get spooled once. Both got away due to bent and broken hooks. Not blaming the reel at all . Guess I need a bigger reel and hooks. Other than that, the reel would be awesome for smaller fish.

You get what you pay for. This is a nice reel I purchased for throwing into the wind without a backlash. First time out worked nice.

Have 3 now. Great for live lining.

Great all around reel

I purchased this reel as a gift for my buddy’s first saltwater outfit. He does not get out often, and enjoys both casting and live bait so this will be perfect to cast rubber and small plugs, or live-line macks and herring for striper their season. Though small, it should have plenty of drag to stop keeper bass, with spool room fir plenty of braid. He’s psyched!

Solid for the price

Have had baitrunners for years. These models are solid for the price range and will pull in any fish you hook. Great for live bait and pitching, not a reel to bottom fish with.

Shimano Baitrunner OC Spinning Reels Questions and Answers

Ask a Question

Asked by Roger 5 years ago

I have the BTR8000 that I was going to fill with 40 lb. test braid, Is it still necessary to put mono backing before filling it with braid ? if so are there spinning reels that don't require mono backing ?

Bernie 5 years ago

Hello Roger, you wouldn't need mono backing. We'll tie a small knot put a strip of electrical tape over over the knot and the first couple layers of braid will bite down into that so the line won't slip on the spool.

I have the Shimano BTR8000OC I'm thinking of purchasing the St. Croix Triumph 10 surf rod for it , good idea ? or do you recommend anything else in the same caliber as the St. Croix triumph 2 Pc. rod for my Shimano ?

Bernie 5 years ago

The 10 foot Tsunami Airwave Elite Surf Spinning Rod would pair well with the 8000 baitrunner.

Asked by PhilltheFish 2 years ago

Can the spool from a BTR8000 be used on the BTR6000 reel ?
KRAIG FRIEDMAN 2 years ago

Yes, the BTR8000 spool does fit onto the BTR6000 reel.

Will baitrunner 4000 fit Shimano Trevala S?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Young, The Shimano BTR4000OC Baitrunner OC Spinning Reel should fit on a Shimano Trevala S spinning rod with no issues. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.

Asked by Dae 3 years ago

I have a St Croix Mojo Jig 66MH that I want a reel for. I want to use it for live lining eels, herring, and other live bait for big stripers. I would prefer to use 50lb braid but 40lb braid is good too.

Paul Olah 3 years ago

That would pair well with the BTR8000OC .

i have shimano baitrunner oc 8000, what rod the best combo

Alex T 3 years ago

If you plan on doing some surf fishing i would recommend a 10'-11'MH rated surf rod such as the St Croix Mojo Surf or Triumph Surf to pair with this 8000 size reel

Asked by Seth 10 years ago

Which Shimano bait runner OC works best with the extra heavy trevala rod?

Customer Service 10 years ago

Either the 6000 or 8000. It comes down to the amount of line you need. They both will offer the same amount of drag, but the 8000 gives you more line capacity.
