Great for fluke

Great price. Great reel. The flipping switch is sweet for fluking. I put a power knob on mine and I think that's definitely the way to go.

The Jigging Reel Seen on Such Youtube Channels as . . .

Kenny

This is a nice little reel for jigging Gulp! for fluke as you may have seen on certain youtube channels. As recommended there, a power handle upgrade is very useful but not required. The "flippin' switch" which allows the angler to free spool by using the thumb lever without needing to turn the handle to re-engage the spool for retrieve is useful for vertical jigging because you read more can quickly adjust to changing bottom contour on a drift. I don't know whether it is the reel stand or the rod seat of the matching Tsunami rod recommended on that youtube channel, but on a couple of occasions I (and others) have had the reel seat's locknut come loose and the reel pop off of the rod while fighting a fish and the rod was under some stress which isn't fun. So far teflon plumbing tape on the reel seat's threads have solved the problem. I don't know how much of Quantum's sales are driven by inshore saltwater fishing, but a slightly ruggedized version for saltwater with an option for a light rod clamp would be nice.

I just used my Quantum bait cast reel yesterday . It's a learning process after using spinning reel all the time. It casts smooth and the adjustments are very helpful to keep from backlashes (which are easy to do).
I do wish I had known there was a choice on which side the handle could be on. I got right handed and would rather have had left hand.
I am using it on a read more Dark Matters Skinner rod and it casts amazingly easy

Awesome reel

This reel is starting out it’s life as my reel for jigging Sabaki rigs for bait before it moves on to light inshore action. It is extremely smooth and for the cost it’s a great value.

Quantum Accurist Bait Cast Reel

Great low profile bait cast reel for the money. Flippin switch made a believer out of me. Comes in several colors to match you favorite rods. Excellent reel for inshore fishing. i.e. Summer Flounder, Seabass, Porgy etc.

Skinner recommended

As previously mentioned, John Skinner recommends this reel for jigging. It was a wait to get them in but I'm looking forward to it. I haven't owned quantum reels before and probably won't buy them for freshwater use simply because I use diawa, however, for this use, I see the benefits to that flipping switch big time. Thumbs up for me.

You know why your here....

I use this for lingcod and rock fish jigging and it really does a great job...
I bought one similar earlier in the season and like the metal star drag and nicer components.

Solid reel

My 1st baitcaster to use for fluke fishing jigging lures. Its a solid build reel all metal but very light and compact size. I can cast very light lures too. Getting it dialed in for me was straightforward but I am still learning it. It would cast further if the the line guide would float L/R when it's freespooling. There is a jigging feature that allows you to press and spool out read more line and release w/o turning the handle. For the price the build quality is excellent and rated for saltwater use. Anyone interested in back bay fishing will love this easy to use reel.

Solid for price

good for light tackle back bay jigging. Recommend swapping out to power handle

Goog Reel

Like the reel with the added power handle. Used it for jigging for blackfish this fall. Nice drag, plenty of power. The only negative, when you free spool, the lever does not move left to right when the line goes out. Was a problem fishing with small jigs. Line got stuck at times, if the lever was all the way to one side, and the line was free spooling from the other side.
Not read more sure I would have purchased this reel, if I was aware of that.

How does this reel hold up in salt water? I am looking for a reel with a flipping switch. Let me know if this would be good or if you have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Devon 7 years ago

The Accurist will hold up well in saltwater use as long as it is properly maintained. Be sure not to accidentally submerge the reel and always lightly rinse it off with fresh water after every use. If you are looking for a reel with a flipping switch th
