I use this as my 50# flyline outfit or yo-yo/coltsniper setup here in SOCAL for tuna and yellowtail. I rigged my 40NLD2 with 500 yards of 60# Seaguar threadlock and was able to get 50 yards of 50# Momoi Diamond mono on top. I have plenty of capacity for fish pushing 100 pounds and maybe even a little bigger. Most people here in San Diego use this as a 60 pound setup and pushing read more 80 pound work. I think the Torque series can handle all three classes with ease. Definitely worth the money!

Smooth as butter

Puts the heat on the fish and stays smooth and consistent throughout the fight. Solid reel, worth the investment.

The best reel money can buy. They just hold up so much better than Talicas and every other medium frame reel. Can't say enough, super smooth and they cast better than Talicas.

Great reel with a narrow spool. Enough capacity for bottom fishing. Narrow enough spool for jigging. Very smooth and very little backplay Great product overall.

How does the Torque compare to the International reel

Devon 7 years ago

The Torque are designed for lighter offshore applications than what the internationals would be used for. The are smaller and therefore have lower line capacities.

What Penn rod would you recommend for the 25NLD2 for heavy bottom fishing, up to 16OZ

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Based on your fishing application I would recommend a Penn BATSPJII350C68M Battalion II Slow Pitch Casting Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-batspjii350c68m-battalion-ii-slow-pitch-casting-rod.html This would be the heaviest

if i get the size 40 rod and i want to jig fish as well as troll offshore what is good rod to match to reel

Rick - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

James,
For the Penn Torque Lever Drag reel TRQ40NLD2 - for jigging the TackleDirect Silver Hook Jigging rod TDSCJ661MH will do the trick and for trolling the TackleDirect Silver Hook Conventional rod TDSSUT601MHSB will do the trick. Please let us know

Asked by Tg 3 years ago

What is the proper size model torque for a 50-80 rod jigging, live bait, etc for tuna? I’m thinking the 49, but wondering it I will lose distance casting if I choose the 30.

Rick - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

Tg,
Either the 30 or 40 size Penn Torque LD will be fine for a 50-80 jigging rod. The Torque LD 40 is a better choice as it has more line capacity when going after bigger fish. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

How many yds of 100lb braid can the torque 40N hold?

Brian - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

Matt,

The 40N should hold around 450yds of 100lb braid.

I am looking for a reel that can do surf and offshore fishing. I do not want a spinning reel. I like Penn's features and I am leaning toward the 25N but is does not have any anti reverse features. Is this doable ?
Thanks

Patrick

Alex T 3 years ago

These reels feature a mechanical braking system as well as a multi-stop anti-reverse feature, this reel would certainly suffice for your fishing application.
If you were looking on a budget many of the new Penn Squall and Fathom reels feature a magnetic
