Great Reel

Looking for a reel that won't break the bank, but preforms like it should, this is it! Great and easy to use work horse! I have been pulling stripers out with this reel all season!

Great reel!

Great reel without hurting your wallet. So far I have been using a pair of the Squall 30's for stripers this year and they are performing great. Smooth drag and plenty of torque to pull in large fish. Comfortable handle with plenty of line capacity. This is the type of quality that Penn provides.

Great for Chunking from the Surf

When chunking with a conventional reel I want heavy mono, and a reel that can hold alot of it.

Was getting great distance casting 50lb Big Game and a 5oz Pyramid sinker and Bunker
chunk.

No backlashes, smooth drag, nice oversized handle.

Durable Reel

Used this reel for reef fishing and trolling for mahis. Works well, only con is that is doesn't hold a lot of line if using mono over 30lbs.

We have one right and one left.

My son and I have two of these reels. We have one left and one right and use them for
cod and haddock. We fish in about 250 feet of water and are able to swap rods and
reels as we get tired. It works great

Nice Reel

Bought it for the line counter. Holds a lot of line, I'm anxious to try it out on some big saltwater fish.

Use for deep sea fishing. Worth it

holds a good amount of line. Drop to 300ft for halibut fish. Works great and pulls up 100lb fish easily

Im looking to pair the 20 size to a 7 foot Daiwa Beefstick rated for 2-6 oz , is that an ideal pair?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

Hi John, I would suggest a rod a little heavier than a Daiwa Beefstick. I would recommmend a TackleDirect Silver Hook Conventional Jigging Rod. Specifically Model: TDSCJ661H; TackleDirect Code: TDA-1435. https://www.tackledirect.com/tackle

Would the 20 size be suitable for party boats for rock fish on NorCal coast and heavier pier fishing? Or maybe even for striper in saltwater?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

Hi John, The Penn SQLII20LW Squall II Level Wind Conventional Reel would be great for fishing for rockfish or stripers in Northern California. The strong drag and the lower gear ratio of 4:9:1 make it ideal for a lot of different bottom fishing appl
