No more Penns for me
I have purchased many Penn reels and the reel life has gone in the crapper. I still have some old Conflict and Spinfishers that are working but all of the new reels have purchased in the last year are awful. Especially the latest one a Penn Slammer 3. I used it for one weekend and now it is loud and when the handle is turned it grinds. Again, this was used for one weekend from a… read more boat and was never dunked or even sprayed with saltwater. I always wash and dry all of my reels at the end of each day. It's not like these are an inexpensive investment.
5500
I now have the 5500 and 6500 Slammer III reels and absolutely love them. On the prowl for a 3500 and 4500 now but getting harder to find
Good
Good for the big fish
Hammer
Used a 6500 standard for the first half of my year at the canal last season, swapped out the knob for the EVA. hammer of a reel, more drag than i could hold on too when i paired it with my 11ft 3-10oz black hole heavy surf 2
Well made.
Also bought the 5500. Can't go wrong with Penn Slammer3. Solid reel and well made. Great service from Tackle Direct. Thanks you.
Excellent reel
Another great Penn reel. Also bought the 4500. Well made, strong drag and smooth.
Slammer III 4500
Reel was flawless fishing it in the surf. Didnt hook up on anything but I can attest that it felt smooth, was comfortable all day fishing with it and it paired well on a 10 battalion surf (first gen). Not a whole lot to dislike.
SLAMMER NO DOUBT
These Slammer reels are phenomenal. I fished for so many years with my old Penn SS reels and these Slammers are such a step above.
Penn SLAIII4500 Slammer III
Great reel for surf fishing.
Penn slammer3 5500 reel
very good reel, planning on getting another one soon.
Penn slammer
Works great real smooth
Awesome except...
The drag. High end is quite strong but low end stays pretty tight like pulling braid cutting your hand tight.
Needed another for Florida
I've been using a SLAIII6500 to fish the surf of the south shore of LI for the last 3 years. I bought the SLAIII5500 for fishing the Atlantic coast of Florida. The IPX6 rating will come in handy standing in wait deep water throwing lures.
Offshore beast
I have 2 of these reels on custom 8ft rods. Primarily used for sight fishing while offshore trolling. Cast at a weed mat or see a lot of birds etc. Cast a big chugger, zip, zip boom fish on! And an unbelievable catch at that...a wahoo! Peeled off maybe 200yds, 65lb suf832 braid. And wahoo can hit ur bait at over 60mph. It was a blast and tasted great!
The 5500 size reel is is basically like a 6000 size, It should be perfect for that style of fishing.
The 3500 could work, but I would go with the 4500 size for a better balance.
I would go with the 5500 or 6500 size.
The 5500 Slammer would be a good fit for the 9' St. Croix. A 4500 Slammer would be a good choice for the G-Loomis Greenwater. You could actually get away with a 4500 on the 9' as well, but the 5500 would balance better.
A great jigging rod that would pair with the Slammer III 4500 would be the Tsunami Slim Wave Rod 7' M or MH power, or also the Jigging World Nexus Spinning Rod.<p><br /></p><p>https://www.tackledirect.com/tsunami-slim-wave-rods.html<br /></p><p>https://ww
I would recommend the 6500, 40# of drag should suffice with 400+ yards of braid capacity.<p>If you think you need more stopping power or line capacity I would go up to the 8500</p>
This would make quite the heavy duty set up, which would work fine if you're fishing with large baits for large gamefish or sharks
Hello Bob, <p><br /></p><p>This reel is made overseas in China. </p>
For casting, I'd say the 4500. There is a significant jump in size and weight between the 4500 and 5500, which is worth keeping in mind when comparing.
We suggest going with the Clash 3000 or 4000. Both of them are lighter than the slammer and should hold more than enough line for you.
Hi Sir! Thanks for the question! What you suggested would be a perfect fit for what you are fishing for.
Depends on what you are fishing for, how much line you need, etc. Give us a call or chat us so we can help you with a few suggestions based on your application.
The spool diameter of the Slammer 3 7500 is 2.7 inches. The diameter of the Slammer 3 8500 is 3.0 inches.
I would go with the Penn Battle III 8000 or 10000, depending on how much line capacity and drag you'll want.
The 4500 Slammer III will pair well with that rod.
sim e sim
Yes that would work well.
The Saragossa is a little bit of a bigger real in size compared to the 4500 Slammer. the Saragossa weighs in at 16 ounces where the 4500 is 15 ounces.
I would recommend going with the 6500 for the line capacity and the drag.
The Penn SLAIII4500 Slammer III Spinning Reel would be a great reel to use with the Tsunami Airwave 9' rod.
The Penn SLAIII5500 Slammer III Spinning Reel would be the best fit for the Teramar 8' H rod.
Either size would work, but the 5500 size would likely be the best fit for 40 lb braid to 60lb fluorocarbon applications.
The 5500 Slammer would be a good size reel fishing for dolphin. This reel has enough line capacity and durability your looking for.
The Shimano TZS72MHBLK Terez Spinning Rod Black would be a good match pairing it with the Slammer 6500 for offshore use.
The St Croix Mojo 12' would be a great rod to pair with the Pen Slammer 8500 for a overall great surf fishing experience.
The Slammer 3500 would pair up with that St.Croix rod
I am sorry, we do not carry those at TackleDirect however you can contact the supplier!
Yes the 3500 model would pair perfectly with that.
Shimano Teramar would be a great pair with this perfect versatile heavier set up, If you were looking to go slightly less expensive check out Star Stellar lite surf rods in models 7ft 6" and 8ft.
The odm jigster and the St.Croix avid surf 10 1/2 to 11 foot would be your best bet and a great pairing for the slammer3
The 7500 would be a good choice for the 7 foot Penn Carnage.
It is a very good pairing, the reel has a good line capacity and drag strength paired with the 11 foot TSAWSS1102H
We don't sell the slammer 3 spare spools
The 8500hs would be your best reel because of it's versatility, that paired with a 7' 2'' Shimano Terez.
The 8500hs is a good choice while heavy it does provide a great line capacity and drag power of 50lbs
The slammer 3 are superior as in line capacity, drag, and quality materials used.
The 3500 would balance out better with the mojo inshore but the 4500 will have more line capacity.
The slammer iii that we have in stock are the 2018 models. There may be a 2017 model mixed in there but if you would like we can always check for you before we ship.
The 5500 would pair well with the 9'6 and the 4500 might actually be a better option as the reel is lighter has a good line capacity for surf fishing and a strong drag at 30 pounds
Hello Mark, the slammer III 3500 would be perfect for lighter lures and inshore schoolies on the SS965.
7 inches length 5 1/2 width 2 1/2 height Box itself with the reel weighs 1 lb 6.4 oz
<span>Hi Donald, The Penn Slammer III Spinning Reels have been discontinued. However I would recommend a Penn 3500 Slammer IV Spinning Reel. </span><a>https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-slaiv3500-slammer-iv-spinning-reel.html</a><span> This would be a idea
Khadarhussain,<p>The Penn Slammer III spinning reels can be used for surf or seashore fishing. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.</p>
Alex,<p>The Penn Slammer 5500 IV (III is discontinued) will pair nicely with the St.Croix Mojo Inshore spinning rod JIS76MF. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.</p>
Yes these two will pair well together.
Those two would pair well together
You'll need a spinning rod, not a conventional rod for these reels. If you use a spinning rod I would suggest the 8500 for that application.
If you're using a spinning rod I would suggest an 8000 or larger size reel.
It depends on what you're fishing for. For surf fishing I would suggest a 12' surf rod, other than that I would need to know what type of fishing you're doing.
The Penn Slammer III 7500 or 8500 would both work well for pier fishing. <p>The Penn Slammer III 8500 Highspeed reel will pick up line a lot faster than the regular 8500 or the 7500 so you may want to consider that. </p>
