Great small reel

Great reel for yellowfin and smaller bluefin. Can be trolled but also light enough to jig. Handle is comfy and drag is more than I’ll ever need.

Penn VISX international 30 Reel

Attention d.

The VISX series is a great upgrade from prior iterations of the international series. Lighter weight, stronger gearing and drag, better ergonomics and drainage. The 30VISX Paired with UC Viper 7’6” rail rod using 120lb JB hollowcore and Basil wind on leaders the 200lb + BFT are brought to gaff quickly.

Great finish, freespool, and drags. Can’t wait to use them on big tuna.

Spectacular

The craftsmanship and attention to detail on this reel is outstanding. The adjustable strike zone is a unique feature I haven’t found on other similar conventional reels that I have owned and the clicker is very loud. Not only is this reel a work of art it also seems to be made very robust.

100# Tuna Reel

I’m a lightweight and this thing makes bringing in your 100# like easy work. Borrowed a friends visx16 when I caught that 100#, bought one right after.

Penn VISXS 20

As with the rest of the VISXS line up, this is a solid reel. Plenty of grease in the right places from the factory. Love the handle on these (I also added the 20/50 size handle to my visxs 16). The second stop for the lever is also a nice touch. Plan to use it for west coast cow bft.

Small, Light and Strong

I have been a huge fan of the open-top VSX series reels ever since their inception. I have used the 50, 30, 20 and 16 VSX/VISX reels to take some of the largest, toughest fish in the canyon waters south of Long Island without fail and with 100% VSX reliability. This 12VISX is the lightest and smoothest one of the bunch and gets crazy amounts of drag with its unique lever setup, read more plus the two-speed gearing will give you the edge when working big fish from the depths. Took a 400-lb thresher with the 20VISX last season in just over one hour and a 350 thresher with the 16VSX in roughly the same timeline. These reels are that good and get significantly more drag than the VS series Penn International reels. I expect nothing less of the mighty-mite 12VISX and this will become my go-to tuna jigging reel, spooled with 500-yards of 65-lb braid.

What an awesome reel!!!!! What can you say that already haven't been said about the reels in the world. It is a very fine crafted reel that is as rugged and refined. This reel will be passed down through generations.

Super strong tank of a reel thats buttery smooth

Michael

Stand up brothas. AMERICA'S BACK BABY. This tank of a reel was made in good ole United States of A in the heart of Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I love the feel of the handle knob. The feel of the knob makes me dream of cranking in 200lb bluefin tuna. The free spool on this is incredibly smooth; you wouldn't think a reel this size with this much power would have a super smooth freespool read more for dropping jigs or fly lining bait.

Would the 12visx be a good fit for a phd809xh for so cal tuna and yellowtail?

Devon 6 years ago

Based on the line capacity of the reel and weight rating of the rod I'd say a 12 VISX and a Black Daimond PHD809XH would be a solid pairing for schoolie sized Tuna and Yellowtail.

Huy - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

<span>Hi Mike, Depending on your method of fishing each reel fits a different function. The international VISX 16 is more tuned for trolling whereas the Torque is more popular used as a bottom fishing and jigging reel. The 16VISX will have slightly higher
