Was given to me by my daughter as a Father's Day gift matched with an ugly stick , I love it ! Growing on 5 years now in constant salt and fresh use best bang for the buck !!!!

Very good reel and I like different spool than the other fierce Penn makes.

Okay reel for the price

Lets face it, your expectations shouldn't be super high at this price point. I think for and extra $30-40 there are some better reels out there, but I acknowledge that is 150% the cost of this reel. I used these as guest reels. If you do a lot of fishing, you might want something a little nicer.

A true workhorse

I own the Fierce 2500 and overall I am please with it, except for the weight. Penn has considerably improved the weight factor of their reels, but not the lightest in the market. But at the end is a personal preference. There are fantastic reels. This particular reel has produced a lot of fish for me, and has taken some abuse and still going strong.

Awesome Reel

Awesome reel for inshore stripers and blues. Has held up well since the day I got it. Would buy again.

Good entry level reel

I have 3 of these, 3500, 6000, and 8000 sizes. All work great after a few years and 100s of fish. Solid and tough. Good reel if you want something that won’t break the bank.

Perfect for price

This real is perfect for beginners in surf fishing for it's price and quality. My 4000 size has been durable while being banged up along the way.

Good reel for the price

Ive had this reel in the 4000 size for a few years now and it's done its job. Obviously not going to be an out of this world reel because of the price range, but for the price it is a great inshore reel. Up in the northeast I have used this reel for stripers, bluefish, and albies. Down south in Charleston this reel is great for the inshore redfish and trout bite. I've also taken read more this reel down to Costa Rica and it is a great bait reel and its fun for surf fishing for little roosterfish and Jacks. I would recommend this reel to anyone looking for a reel this price range or for someone with a higher price range that is looking for a solid bait reel.

This reel is good and. Have nothing against penn i have a clash that i use for everything. But for the price some shimano reels like the Sahara are just more worth it. They are lighter and smoother.

Great looking and works well

I have a 4K and a couple of 6K's. They are still working great. Red and black seems to match everything too.

Very nice light fishing reel

Sweet, smooth gears, great for flounder or fluke fishing, price is very affordable, buy 2 for matching with lightweight rods

Nice cheap introductory reel by a good company

As long as your not taking this out to battle with giant blues or stripers. also might as well get the reel and rod combo for $20.00 more.

Bought the 6000 for surf fishing and it work excellent. Pulled in a really nice 27in red fish. After the trip cleaned it up and still work is great can’t wait to take it out on my next surf fishing trip.

A 5000 would be a good overall size for this rod .

I have a Squadron 2 7" Extra Fast and wanted to get something light. I fish off the pier and on shore. What would I be able to use? I already have a 6000ll and 8000ll.

Donald 6 years ago

The 5000 would be the best size pairing it with the Squadron II 7' XF fishing from the side banks and piers.

Hello Kyle. Yes, the 4000 series would be absolutely perfect for you.

I am looking on your website at purchasing the Penn Fierce 8000 or the Diawa Emcast Plus 6000. I am surf fishing the Outer Banks, NC. Using a 12' rod with 7-9oz weight plus bait, line is 20# ProSpec. I would greatly appreciate your opinion on which ree

Both of those reels would work fine for the application that you described.
