Great out of the box but doesn't last long. I have had two of these reels now. The first one barely lasted a season until it started having this grinding sound and feel every time I reeled. I thought it was from something I might have done so I got another one and the same thing happened. Also the handle becomes super lose after time and mine even ended up breaking off.

Super light...well built versatile spinning reel
I use it on surf rod and my fluke rod! Wish the handle was bigger and length longer..

Extremely light weight but feels like a solid quality. Cant go wrong with Penn.

Good quality reel from penn. Mines has lasted a while now without issue. Wash it down, not sealed like the slammer.

Very light weight reel great for all day fishing

works well for all day fishing. Easy to handle, spools line nicely

Very light but strong drag

I’m giving it 4 stars just because the line roller was not spinning in the beginning and was planning to send it back. TD advised me to apply some oil but didn’t work. Decided to take the line roller apart to oil the components, it started to spin but not constantly. I thought maybe I just need to break it in. I used it for Tog fishing and it did loosened up. Drag is strong enough read more to keep the Tog out of the rocks. If you’re familiar with Tautog they are strong fish. I would wish the line roller has a bearing instead of a plastic bushing and would prefer a longer reel handle for leverage. As of the moment I trying to figure out how to upgrade the bearing and the handle. I fished 4 hours straight almost holding tackle all that time. No problem because it was so light.

Great saltwater reel

The Penn Conflict II is very lightweight so fishing all day is no issue. Smooth as silk, I know own 2 of them and will purchase these again.

Super Light Reel

I like this reel for the price point. fits a good amount of line, sleek all back look, extremely light. The only thing I don't like is the handle. I have the 4000 size and just caught my PB redfish on it.

Cool

This reel is very smooth and comfortable and is in my top three spinning reels along with the Penn Clash and Stradic.

Very light for a Penn

Penn Reels are usually on the heavy side but not this one. A relative of mine has one and I was pretty impressed at how light it was but how stout the reel was at the same time.

Alright

Nothing like a shimano but had lots of strength the one bad thing is that it is hard to turn with high tension

Not for me

I had a 5000 but was too big to fit in the reel seat that had a different 5k size reel. The handle was too short for me as well, but that might just be a preference thing.

Not like other Penn’s

Love Penn reels but not crazy about this one. Have had other penn reels all my life(60 years) and never had one get tough to reel. This one after only one year of use got tough to crank with a fish on. Took it home and opened it up to find minimal grease inside it. Cleaned and degreased. Seams to be ok now but I am a little concerned. Will not buy this feel in future, will stick read more to other penn reels.

Great Reel.. Very Lite and Smooth..!

I have a multitude of different Penn reels and like all the rest this one did not disappoint. very lite and smooth, and it seems like I don't have near as many wind wraps when using braid. I have it paired with a St. Croix 7' Med. Mojo yak rod and I love this thing more and more every fish a catch on it.

Junk

Line roller dose not roll. The first thing I noticed was the reel turned unreasonably hard with just the slightest tension on the line. Found that the line roller dose not roll as it should. There is no roller bearing. Just a plastic bushing. This reel is not usable.

Asked by Albin 5 years ago

Would a 2500 pair well with tackle direct travel rod?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

It would pair well with any medium to medium light power rod

Asked by Sergio 6 years ago

What rod would pair well with the conflict 2?

Bernie 6 years ago

Hello sergio, it would really depend on which conflict two. The conflict1000 would pair up well with a TackleDirect travel three piece rod while the 5000 series would pair up well with something like the St.croix mojo inshore 7 foot heavy.

Asked by TN 4 years ago

How does the Conflict II 4000 compare in size to the Shimano Stradic 4000XG (is it larger/smaller)?

Brian 4 years ago

The Conflict II is slightly larger.

Asked by Damon 5 years ago

Just received my Conflict II 6000. I would like to switch the handle to fish the reel left handed. I know Penn spinners typically are reverse threaded to the reel (as is this one). It looks looks if I put the handle on the right side of the reel the 2nd

No we do not.

Asked by Dan 6 years ago

I have a 7 foot St Croix Triumph that needs a reel that can handle some giant cobia this spring on the NC Outer Banks. What do y’all recommend. Thanks

Donald 6 years ago

The 5000 Penn Conflict would match well with the 7' St Croix Triumph for cobia fishing in the NC Outer Banks.

Asked by Andrew Donovan 6 years ago

Which size conflict reel would you recommend for a St. Croix Triumph Surf 10’ rod?

Donald 6 years ago

The closest match would be the 5000 which would fit the St Croix Triumph 10' nicely.
