Good
I use it and cant complain
Excellent for the Beach
Bought this for a 10 ft ugly stik. Awesome combo that cast a long way. I could see this reel doing well on jetties as well. Super smooth, fast. Not a huge fan of newer Penns; they seem heavy and expensive, BIG FAN of this one! Reminds me of my dads Penns n the 80s. Very happy.
Great reel from penn
This reel is great, smooth, strong and and has not failed me yet. I use a 4000 and I love it for anything that Nj waters throw at me. Love the power knob too
2500 size is perfect
Got the 2500 size dx Penn battle for a travel rod reel and it catches 40lb Tuna to 35 pound lake trout. Good reel for the money. The dx is a nice upgrade.
Berfy reel
Reel has plenty of power for tarpon and bigger fish. Smooth operation
Great Reel
Recently purchased this reel and used for Light surf and inshore fishing while on vacation. Paired with a M 7' Battalion II. Great combination.
Exclusive
Very cool exclusive reel. The penn battle 3 is already great so the improvements make this even better. really cool handle and color scheme. must buy for penn fans.
Good Real & Drag
I've been using this real in the 2500 with a 6' St Croix Fast Action for large mouth bass. Very nice combination. Smooth real and nice drag!
Get Reel I've ever owned.
This is the best reel that I've ever owned. I use it to surf fish and to fish for stripers below a local dam in very swift current and is handles both well. I would also like to that TackleDirect.com for their fast shipping and excellent customer service.
Nice reel
Love this reel. Its very smooth & and has lots of backbone.
Good upgrade for my combo
Got an ugly stik combo and wanted to upgrade the reel so I got a dx battle 3 and very happy with it. Good knob and all day comfort
2500 is perfect inshore reel
Got the 2500 for inshore and it's a beast. Little heavy but solid and don't flex like other brands.
Battle III 4000 DX
I have several Penn reel's.This reel works as advertised plus it looks amazing paired on my Tsunami Trophy II 7ft med surf rod.It casts a mile with 15lb braid. It's got a smooth retrieve and the drag works flawlessly.I have caught more spanish mackerel from the surf with this set up then i can count.Great reel for the price.
We do not sell extra spools for the Penn Battle 3 DX
The biggest difference is that Brass main gears are in every size of the Penn Battle III DX as opposed to the Battle III which only has the brass gearing in the 6k-10k models. The stronger gearing makes for a more robust and powerful reel.
This is a very solid well designed reel, while i have not personally fished it so i cannot say with absolute certainty, i would assume that this reel is very smooth under pressure with the brass gears and full metal construction.
What was your previous
Yes, the 3000 has the oversized EVA handle knob.
depending on what you are typically targeting i would pair the 6000 and 8000 BattleDX reels up with at least a 7' MH or H rated rod
https://www.tackledirect.com/shimano-teramar-xx-northeast-spinning-rods.html

The DX and regular Battle III both have an aluminum spool.
Both come with a metal rotor.
Unfortunately, there is no listing yet under the Gomexus specs yet, but I would imagine it would be compatible.

Yes you can pair the rod and reel with 40 lb braid.
I would go with the 6000 or 8000 depending on how heavy of line you wanted to run.
8000 for sure
