At the time of buying it, was 130 and was worth every penny, nice and smooth and casts great, make sure you clean it though because it is not sealed.

Good Rod & Reel Combo for Inshore / Surf

Dewagede

You can use this for both inshore and surf fishing. I have pulled up to 40" bull reds with this reel and the drag never disappointed me. Rod is strong and won't break.

Awesome medium light setup I got for my dad to Spanish mackerel fish.

Affordable and fun. Super nice setup for the price and has been giving my dad a blast of a time. Would recommend to anyone.

Great light tackle combo

Bought this as a backup to my other Penn setup that I use which has a Battle II 3000 reel. This rod is top notch, reel is smooth, casts really well and has caught some nice fish already. Action is a tiny bit slower than I'm used to but this was a great buy. I highly recommend for a beginner or anyone looking for a solid reel in a combo setup.

I’ve had Penn Battle IIs for several years now. Was bummed to see they stopped making them. So when I found this one, I was super stoked

This is a good economy combo that will last for years. I have used several of these in harsh salt environments

Balance and handling

This combo is just what i like. It is balance good and is easy to use for me. It holds plenty of line 30lb braid is almost 500 yds. so it can handle anything I can from the beach. Plan on using for kings from my boat and pier also.

Great combo

I use for stripers and it's great for it. I've used on the pier also for cobia and kingfish and it's great.

Great rod and reel. I own two of these. Good for all around inshore fishing. And cheap way for someone to get into fishing. But have a quality product.

Penn Battle II Spinning Combos Questions and Answers

Ask a Question

Asked by Jared 5 years ago

Would the Penn Battle 2 6000 7' mh be a decent choice for speed jigging 4 oz and smaller jigs? Will be used a couple times per year for smaller (25#) tuna.

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

That should be a good combo, not to heavy not to light.

Asked by Mike 5 years ago

Does this come with the Battalion rod

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

It comes with a battle 2 rod and reel.

Asked by Willy 5 years ago

What is up with these new blue versions? I just ordered for my wife (backorder), I have not seen them anywhere but tackledirect

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

The reel and rod are black in color.

Asked by Alex 5 years ago

whats the best combo for fluking inshore

Bernie 5 years ago

The 4000 or 5000 series would be a good choice for inshore fluking

Asked by Doug 6 years ago

What is a good rod to pair with a Penn Battle 2 model 1000 for smaller fish in mangroves of the Keys? Thank you! Doug

Bernie 6 years ago

The 4000 series inshore series would work for you

Billy - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

We can certainly spool your reel before it ships out. Leave a note in the comment section at checkout if you want us to spool it, we spool with mono for free. If you want braid or fluorocarbon you can purchase it with your order and we'll spool it up with

What is difference between Penn BTLII3000701ML and BTLII3000MLCBO?

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

The "CBO" in the BTLII3000MLCBO model just indicates that it is the combo with the blue handle.

Asked by Bob 4 years ago

Would the BTLII6000701MH be a suitable combo for bottom fishing from a charter boat in Southern California, targeting rock fish and the occasional lingcod and halibut?

Bass O 4 years ago

Hello, The Penn battle II is a very diverse combo that will hold up with almost any type of fishing.

Asked by James 4 years ago

Can you use popper & stick bait with the penn battle 2 6000 combo ??

Brian 4 years ago

Yes, you certainly could.

Asked by Luke 4 years ago

What weight range can you cast with the Battle 6000 9’ combo? Can it be used for jigging?

Brian 4 years ago

Penn doesn't list lure weights on their combo rods, but 1-3oz would be a good estimate. This rod was designed for surf fishing, jigging would not be advised with this combo.

Asked by Steve 7 years ago

Is the Battle II reel included in the combos exactly the same (ie its not a lesser quality version) at the Battle II reel that can be bought separately?

Donald 7 years ago

The Penn Battle reels sold with the rods are not a lower quality reel than the reels that are sold individually.

Asked by Sebastian 7 years ago

What size is good for small to medium size red fish?

Devon 7 years ago

We would suggest the Battle II Combos with either the 3000 or 4000 size reels for this application.

Asked by Juan Ramirez 8 years ago

I want one for white bass fishing, which kind would you recommend

Donald 8 years ago

The Penn BTLII4000701M Battle II Spinning Combo would be the best combo for white bass fishing.

Asked by Claudio 9 years ago

Hi, I asked a question regarding a rod match for a Penn Battle II spinning reel that i received as a gift, but i gave the wrong reel # its actually the Battle II 5000 and i Need to pair it up a nice Inshore and freshwater medium heavy rod, please advice,

David 9 years ago

I am assuming that you are fishing for striper, bluefish, flounder etc in New Jersey. Check out this rod: http://www.tackledirect.com/st-croix-vis76mhf-avid-inshore-spinning-rod-7-ft-6-in.html

Each of the combos come with a different size reel. It lists the size reel in the descriptions.
