Great alternative to the stella and saltiga

Chris

I bought a 30k version of this reel because i am not really a huge fan of the feel of the stella and saltiga, never have been.
I got this to handle large tuna here in the north east. the drag system on this reel is incredible. it does take some learning to dial in correctly. i managed to blow up a rod by ramping it all the way up too fast.
line capacity in immense. its read more a bit big to cast, but i really got it to jig with anyway. i like the over all feel of it, i wish the knob was a different shape, when fighting a fish under a lot of drag pressure, it got uncomfortable after a while. a large EVA or T shaped knob would be much better

Best spinner in the world, built better than every other. Read Allan hawks review, he rated this the best in the world!

Best spinning for saltwater giants!

I have the 20000 and love it so I got the 30000. Both are very nice reels, the one special about them is the preset drag. No more guessing, used this for tunas and does the job smoothly w heavy drag in a quarter of turns from the knob. Sweet! Like any other makaira, built like a tank!

I was skeptical buying an Okuma but have been waiting for this reel since it arrived at a ICast almost 3 years ago. When TD finally got some in stock I had to jump on it. This reel is a beast, fully forged body and gears, yet clean smooth lines, interesting preset drag system, waterproof, yet still cheaper than a Torque, Saltiga, or Stella.

Wow oh wow!

The only spin reels I own are Van Staals but we had a need for a large bluefin tuna spinning reel. This reel does not disappoint! It is one of the smoothest reel i have handled, especially considering the size. The fine adjustment on the drag works incredibly well with simple small turns.

I am right handed, mistakenly purchased an MK-20000 Spinning left handed. Not know if the handle is reversible

What is a good rod to use with the MK-30000RS? I will be fishing for rooster fish, bluefin tuna, dorado, and marlin. Let's assume up to 150 lbs.
I will be travelling with this reel but need a rod that is reasonable to transport by air.

Thanks.....

Can you catch a 150lb tuna or marlin with this reel

Devon 6 years ago

Absolutely. Either size would do the job but you would be best off with the 30000.
