Smaller than expected

Seems like a great reel. I loaded it with 8 lb mono on a 6.5 ft Daiwa rod. Casts a mile. Reviews on other sites commented on the small sizing, and I agree. I bought the C30, and it's the same size as Daiwa and Shimano 2500's.

Good for the price

I use a couple of these reels on my mackerel sabiki setups. They haven't let me down and I don't baby these reels. Nice and smooth and can bring in a full sabiki of macks without feeling like it is going to break. Would buy these again if the first set ever wears out.

The Best All Around Reel

Basically, this reel has handled ( with 8 lb. test mono) Smallies 2 pound plus up to a 48 inch Northern Pike without an issue. The drag is absolutely fantastic and balances very well with a 6'6 Fenwick HMG.

Great reel for the price. Very smooth and also a good looking reel. Paired it up with a 7' Shimono Simatar.

Love this reel!

I paired it with a Sam Heaton super sensitive 7ft spinning rod for crappie fishing. Performed beautifully nice drag, casts a mile, very smooth, and looks sweet. Havent had it long enough to comment on its reliabilty or durability but it feels like a solid well put together product. Definitely an excellent buy!!!

Super light, smooth, and inexpensive

I was looking for the lightest "quality" reel under $50 and this is the one that I ended up landing on. Small, smooth, and the line lay was fine out of the box. I use it for panfish and creek fishing and it has been great.

Selection as one of the top ten spinning reels is justified

I bought a Ceymar 30 after reading a comparison on the best new rods and reels in Field and Stream, and the reviewers liked the Ceymar, but didn't know how it would hold up in salt water. I have been using the reel for about a year, on a 13 Oman Green 7 foot rod for fishing on flats outside of Corpus Christi, Texas, since last year. The reel has been used to bring in over 50 black read more drum weighting anywhere from 4 pounds to what I believe is over 40 pounds but the lip holder on the scale was too small to go over the fishes lips. I wipe the reel down with a cloth with penetrating oil when I come in, and remove the spool, wipe the shaft, and put Purple oil and a little grease on, and wipe out the inside of the spool. With a little maintenance, it shows no signs of wear, and the drag is as good or better than the Shimano Stradics I have been using. Tackle Direct has excellent service, and sells good products, and fast shipping.

I recently had used this reel on south Florida bass charters boat and instantly fell in love with this light weight power house and immediately bought it I live in Juno beach and I have used it At the pier to catch bonnito and it holds up fine if your an experienced fisherman and you can use light tackle it's so smooth you don't know you are reeling line but sure enough you are read more and I'm not doing this review to market this reel I'm just giving my experience with it so far and it's great it's a poor man's. Stradic ci4 and I use mine for salt water but I wouldn't recommend it honestly because it's made for fresh water but if your as adventurous as me and don't really care buy it and I hope it fits you like it does me I swear I couldn't fall asleep because I was thinking about this reel but the c-30 should have 8-10 pound mono or 10-15 braid depending on what you like and as far as leader 17-25 mono is ideal I have jumped a tarpon on this reel and I really needed 50 but the drag system on these things allow you to be able to use lighter gear.

I have a 10# saltwater spinning rod. Which Okuma Ceymar spinning reel Model do you recommend for this rod? I will probably spool it with 15# mono.

David 9 years ago

For that size line, I would probably do the 40 size model. It would help to know what kind of rod and what you are fishing for, but based off the line that you want to use that is what I would pick.

Hugo, The Cl refers to the way it is packed, CL means its comes in a hard plastic shell rather than a box.

What is the best size Okuma rod and reel combo for fishing lake trout from shore ?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

<span>Hi Brian, Based on your fishing application I would recommend the Okuma C-55 Ceymar Spinning Reel. This would pair well with a Okuma RSP-S-862M Rockaway SP Rod. The longer length will allow you to cast farther distances but also allow you to feel th
