Powerful and light

William

I use this reel for GT and other trevally in Hawaii. I’ve brought in a 52lb GT with the 6000 with no reel-related problem. I was able to crank down the drag when I was close to being reefed which really ended up saving the day.

Perfect surf fishing reel

Bought the 8000 model few mnts back, was a little to heavy for surf fishing all day but awesome for jigging, finally saw that the 6000 was in stock and so happy i got it, perfect reel for the surf, super light and heavy drag cant wait to try it out on some Jersey strippers

Great reel for the price!

Like this reel so much ordered a 2nd one for son's Christmas gift. Super lightweight for it's size. Plenty of drag. Great upgrade design from previous model. Wish

This is a reel with a sturdy frame and super-strong drag that has performed admirably. Handled 30-40 school yellowfin tuna without breaking a sweat. The fish-stopping power of its double-stacked drag is simply unreal. Highly recommended.

Great drag and handling

Very light weight easy for casting
A lot of power due to the drag
Long line for surf or pier casting
Not to big just the right size

A good looking entry level reel good for medium to light application. The drag is okay but it could be improved by using carbon fiber washers. Not sure about it's durability.

Okuma Cedros 55 spinning reel

Bought this reel last year (2011) and was told I wasted my money by friends. Well between last year and this year this reel has stood up to Stripers to 42 LBS and the brutal runs of Bluefish in the 15-18 LB class and not a single flaw! The drag is still smooth and the reel works like the day I bought it! Don't think I wasted my money!

For tuna popping, Daiwa BG 8000 or Okuma Cedros 10.000 is better ?

Alex T 3 years ago

I would say the Cedros is better suited to handle this fishing application, the only advantage to the BG would be line capacity

Asked by Brendan 6 years ago

Which size would fit best on the Okuma Nomad NTi-S-703M-MH? And how much 20lb braid would that reel handle? Thx.

Donald 6 years ago

The 55s reel would fit best on the Okuma Nomad NTi-S-703M-MH. You would easily fit 500 yards of 20 lb braid on the 55s.

Asked by Brendan 6 years ago

Would the CJ-80 match up well for surf fishing with the Nomad 10 ft Heavy surf rod? How much 50 lb braided can it hold? Thanks.

Donald 6 years ago

The CJ-80 would match well with the Okuma Nomad 10' H for surf fishing. The reel will fit approximately 500 yards of 50 lb braid.

Asked by Mychal 6 years ago

Can the 65s handle tuna and marlin up to 100lbs

Devon 6 years ago

I cannot say with confidence that the Cedros can withstand fish of that size. Spinning reels I would suggest for Tuna and Marlin of that size would be the Shimano Saragosa and Penn Slammer III.

Asked by Nektarios 8 years ago

i want a spinning reel for my shore jigging rod and i dont know which one is the best...okuma cedros cj55s or okuma azures z-55s;

Kaitryn 8 years ago

I would go with either the 45 or 55 Cedros, especially if you are jigging. They are lighter reels compared to the Azure, but still have a quick line retrieval. I personally would choose the 55.

Asked by Nelson 9 years ago

Does the Cj-80 have an automatic bail or do you have to flip it manually? I bought a Fin Nor Lethal LT 100 for around the same price only to find out that the bail is manual, which I was not interested in. I tried it out for a few weeks, hated it and tr

Brandon 9 years ago

Hello Nelson. This reel is indeed an automatic bail. Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions.

Why are the okuma cedros spinning reels so cheap? I would just like a straight forard answer; such as if it just isn't in high demand or if there is a serious problem with the reel. Thank you.

Okuma specializes in selling reduced priced spinning reels. An honest straight forward answer is an Okuma Cedros is not going to feel as solid as a Shimano Stradic or new Penn Spinfisher V but it is still an awesome reel and an awesome price. There have b
