I own 2 4000s and one 6500. I've caught thousands of striped bass on my 40s as well as flounder big bluefish and weakfish. I also run a guide service and these are the reels I set my customers up with. My 1st has been around for 3 seasons and going strong. I used to be into van staals and this will catch the same fish no problem. The reals do close on the cast and I've remove read more the bail from my 6500 because I bought that one to try and pop tuna. Also sometimes if you don't pay attention the line will wrap around the top of the spool at the start of the retrieve. But other than those two minor problems the reals are solid and last and can't be beat in that price point by any reel I've seen on the market there isn't even a close comparison in that price point these reels are a solid as my van Staal 150s and shimano stellas

Okuma is a great brand and a great reel. The drag is strong and smooth casts and works great.

Bail me out

After casting you need to manually close the bail. I’ve never had a reel that didn’t close itself by turning the handle. Almost wondering if something is missing. Other than the bail issue everything is good

I purchased the 65 for party boat fishing in Southern California and the real has not let me down!!! I have caught Dorado, Yellowtail, Rockfish, Sand Bass, Calico Bass on this reel. It's stopping power is amazing and for the price it hard to find a better reel. I will be adding 2 more of these to the rotation.

I have used this reel for jigging and popping, for around 2 years now and absolutely nothing wrong with it. Great amount of drag, torque and rigidity for winching in those big fish. Best priced reel I have ever used!

Great reel

Asked by James 5 years ago

Is the 55 size a good match on a 9 ft surf rod for stripers?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

The 40s and the 55s will both match up well with the 9 foot rod

Asked by Woody 5 years ago

What are the significant differences between the Z-40 Azores and the Z-4000 Azores besides the color? The added line capacity is the only difference "on paper". Heavier duty parts? Internal support system? Size of size the bearings or drag disks?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

Besides the color the only difference is the line capacity with the 4000 having a larger line capacity.

Asked by Mychal 6 years ago

Can this reel handle 80-120 sail fish and tuna

Bernie 6 years ago

The Z-65S Azores would most likely fit your needs for 80-120 sail fish and tuna

Asked by Eric Givler 2 years ago

Are the Azores built for braid? It doesnt even mention it and the spool doesnt seem to have the slip resistant section that catches braid.

Huy - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Eric, The Okuma Azores reels are designed to be used with braid or monofilament line. You can certainly use braid on the reel as long as you either use mono to back the reel or electrical tape to allow the braid to eat into something to prevent i

Terry,
The bail on the Okuma Z6000-H Blue Azores reel has to be closed manually. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Asked by Howard Hague 3 years ago

Does the bail on the 14000 close automatically or do you have to close it manually?

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

This bail will close automatically, but it's a good habit to close it manually to avoid wind knots and to ensure the line gets on the roller correctly.

would Asores Z65 pair well with TD Silver Hook boat 7'0" ?
Looking for versatile inshore / light of shore spinning setup for vairous species (stripers, blues, Mahi, Tog and large Flounder)

Alex T 3 years ago

These would make a very good reasonably priced pair. I will say you can probably get away with a 55s or 40s for targeting these species as well, just to keep your set up light!

Asked by Kenn Asche 3 years ago

Have the Cedros Aples 6'6" rod for Boca Grande Tarpon (+140lbs). What reel size would you recommend? The rod is blue so I would like the reel to match. 6000-blue, 8000 blue, or 14000 blue?

Alex T 3 years ago

I would recommend the 8000 size reel, same drag specs as the 14000 but will be lighter and easier to handle while hooked up to these huge tarpon.

Asked by Mike 4 years ago

Would Blue Azores be a good surf reel?

Rebecca Redington 4 years ago

Yes it will work.

Asked by Dylan 6 years ago

I am looking for a multi-purpose saltwater spinning reel. I will use it for live bait tarpon fishing and jigging for amberjack. I like this reel because it does high drag. Which size should I get, the 65 or the 80?

Devon 6 years ago

I think the 65 size would be sufficient so long as you are using a braided line. You'd be able to fix approximately 300 yard of 80 lb. braid on the reel.

Asked by Borromeo Baniqued 9 years ago

is this for both left and right handle?

Customer Service 9 years ago

Yes. You can switch the handle to either side.
