Great Baitfeeder Function, My Wife Likes it!
I recently purchased ABF-40B bait-feeder for live bait fishing in San Francisco Bay. My wife was having problems with spool over-run and back lashing with my level-wind reels. I had her try a standard spinning reel, and had better results, but manipulating the bail all the time was an issue.
I decided to give this Baitfeeder a try, and she really likes that all she needs…

to do is push the Baitfeed lever forward, line drops. then when it thunks against the bottom, flip the lever and she is in business...does not need to fool around opening the bail, closing the bail etc.
Have landed some nice stripers and halibut...works great.
Excellent Features
I was pleasantly surprised at the performance of this reel. The feature that allows the spool to rotate freely while the line is out works great when you are bait fishing. It allows the fish to take the bait without any resistance. Then as soon as you start reeling the drag is re-engaged. I was skeptical about that feature working.

smooth.
Overall I find it to be an excellent purchase.
Okuma Bummer
I have used these reals with a friend and liked it especially for the price $. Unfortunately this one that I bought is malfunctioning from the first time out. The real is not transferring from the baitfeeder drag to the main drag on a consistent basis. This can be a big problem when a Large fish takes your bait ! I would be very hesitant to buy another.
Been good to me
I have two of these reels on my Striped Bass jigging rods. Never had a problem. Caught Stripers up to 45 lbs on them...
Very Nice Reel
It came as ordered, just took a while..
More power than expected
I am not a fan of spinning hear for salt water, but what a suprise. Easy to use and the ABF system prevents a lot of line twistPower
Nice reel for livelining
Performs as expected... provides good drag control on the bait runner drag.. works great.. very smooth... feels very strong...
Okuma abf20b baitfeeder reel
after I bought this from you, I found it $10 cheaper someplace else.
The picture showed is of the ABF 40
Hello William. Unfortunately spare spools for this reel are not available to suppliers like us. however, they may be available directly from Okuma. They can be reached at (909)923-2828. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions!
Yes it is reversible.
The only difference is the way they are packaged. The ABF-80b is packed in a box, while the ABF-80b-cl is packed in a plastic clam pack.
Most sizes are for light inshore applications and the larger sizes can be used for heavy inshore and surf applications.
