I got this one for my self, and the pro for my kid (7) and I like mitchell 300 better.
Very soft, light weight, casts just fine.
I have proved this reels since I was 10 (now 35) and I can say this is a very durable brand!
I use it to catch trouts.

Is this a saltwater rod and reel?

This can be used as a salt water combo. I would not use is for anything heavy, things like snapper blues and smaller fish.
