Great medium sized electric reel
I did one deep drop trip out of Point Pleasant without an electric reel. For two days i regretted not having an electric reel since we were fishing in 750" of water with 4lbs of lead. Great trip and immediately afterwards I purchased this reel and used it for several years now and it has been flawless. I use small AGM batteries for power and get about a full days of use on a… read more deep drop trip. Note after about 3 years of hard use on deep drop trips I did need to open up the reel and service the the reel due to salt intrusion (i expected this from all the salt spray the reel got over the years). It was not any harder to service than a non electric conventional reel.

Both reels have aluminum frames, the difference is cosmetic so the winding power is the same. Daiwa just lowered the pricing in order to promote the Tanacom reels.

This reel is not meant to be used form the surf. It is designed moreso for deep-dropping in deep water. It can definitely be used for sea bass and ling from a boat, but is not needed, given that these fish are usually fished for in depths of less than 200
