I absolutely love these reels and I fish them hard, they are a true workhorse. I bought the 30 size and paired them with an 11foot surf rod. These reels cast a mile, and are built well enough to stand up to sand and salt in the surf. These reels have caught several red drum, 5-6foot blacktip sharks, multiple stingrays, and a giant jack.

Line capacity, casting distance, read more solid drag, and overall easy to maintain are five stars in my book.

Great Reel

This is the first of many. I have it paired with a 12’ SlimeCat rod. This reel cast like a dream. My only con is the handle it just feels cheap. A rubber or EVA handle would be nice. Great reel for the money.

Absolutely terrible company for saltwater reels!

Jessie

Had mine for a year and so did a friend (bought at the same time). Within the first month had a grinding in the ball bearings. I don't do any beach fishing at all so i assumed that i got salt inside of it and cleaned it to no avail. A week later my friend's reel started doing the same. Now both of these reels were thoroughly cleaned after each use. Luckily another friend of ours read more knew a Daiwa rep., and we got all of the internals replace for free. Upon receiving it the worked great.....for about a month again..... I went as far as to replace the "sealed" ball bearings inside with ceramic ones i bought online, which did help, but has not totally absolved the issue with their crappy bearings grinding and locking up.

Great Reel For the Price!!

I bought this Reel for surf casting in Texas. Wasn't used to casting conventional reels. So there were some growing pains but more than likely it is a user error haha
anyways, after I got the hang of it.... best reel I have ever owned for surf casting! at almost 20lbs of drag... it has ZERO issue stopping the fish im targeting with this reel.

Reely Nice!

Had mine for four seasons now. Stripers, Bluefish and Blackfish have filled the cooler thanks to this trouble free reel! For the price you can't beat this reel.

This reel is one of the best reels i have bought. It pulls amazingly and is meant for throwing heavy weights. I pulled a 39 inch drum with it with ease.

Another Great Reel from Daiwa

I own a Sealine 20 SHX and was going to buy another but decided to give this one a try. No regrets. I like the narrower spool for easier winding and casting distance is just as good (if not better) than my Sealine, Star drag is smooth as well.

Easiest casting reel I've used in a long time

This was my first daiwa reel. I was skeptical about it because of it's small size and graphite frame. When I got it home, I disassembled it. I was quite impressed with the internals of this reel. Brass alloy main gear and stainless pinion. What really blew me away though, was the drag stack. Daiwa's tournament carbon drag washers are massive!
First time out, I spooled read more it up with 30 lbs braid, probably close to 400 yards worth. First cast with a 3 oz spoon on a 7' tiger lite, got an easy drama free 75-80 yards. This thing is a rocket! It casts so easy and the centrifugal brake works so well, that I handed it off to my wife who has never messed with anything but a spinner, told her the bare basics of how to cast, and to just touch the rim of the spool when the bait hits the water. She managed about a 50 yard cast with NO BACKLASH!
Retrieve is very smooth and lightning fast, drag is very progressive and plentiful. Brought in a 25 lbs gag grouper with no drama whatsoever.
Ive got probably 20 different reels that I choose from whenever I go out on the boat. This one will always go with me because it is an absolute pleasure to fish with all day!

Great reel for the money

What is the difference between the SGT30H and the SGT50H?

Rick - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Ted,<p>Besides the obvious Daiwa SGT50H is bigger than the Daiwa SGT30H, so more line capacity. The SGT50H has a higher gear ratio (more inches for line per turn of the handle), more drag 19.8lbs compared to 15,4lbs,  Please let us know if there is anythi

These reels come pre greased, but its not a bad idea to regrease critical areas as needed with your normal maintenance.

Your thoughts on pairing SGT35H with Shimano TLC70MBBL Talus for tog and stripers off Jersey party boat

Donald 6 years ago

The Daiwa Seagate 35 might be a big large for the style of fishing your doing. The 30 in my opinion would be a good size to match with the Shimano TLC70MBBL Tallus for Tautog and striped bass fishing.

I want to use the sgt 30H for blackfish from a party boat in NJ I would be pairing it with a shimano voltaues rod . do you think it would be suitable. I would also use 40 lb test braid

Customer Service 9 years ago

Yes, the 30H would work well as a party boat Tog reel. The pairing with the Voltaus is also good. Just hope you already have the rod because we are out and they are not available now.
