My new favorite reel
You get a lot of features at this price point. I was hesitant with the level wind chafing my main line as seen in some product review videos. This reel lw eyelet has a smooth coating that has no signs of damaging my line. Like most Daiwa reels, the gears on this are amazing and I would expect to have this guy a long time.
Great reel period!
I have several versions of this reel and they all work great! the 50 is a great reel I use for trolling Mojo's for jumbo striped bass! very smooth operation and level wind works perfect!
Never had anything but problems with any Daiwa reel i've touched.
My Father, his friend, my friend, a coworker, and myself have had nothing but bearing problems with these reels in saltwater. These reels were well taken care of, oiled, lubed, cleaned after every use and still managed to irk us to where we all got rid of them.We were lucky enough to know a Daiwa rep through a friend and had the bearings replaced and they all started doing the same… read more thing2 weeks later after our first trip with the new bearings. We even went as far as to get ceramic bearing for them and still had a constant grinding in the reel.
A Smooth well built reel
My favorite reel when salt water fishing for Sea Bass, Flounder, Tog and any other fish under 20 pounds. I know a reel repairman/servicer personally and he was highly impressed by how durable and
smooth this reel is. The level wind feature is another plus. No more concern about the hills and valleys in your spool. You can't go wrong with this reel.
Great reels.
These are very nice, heavy duty reels. Daiwa put out great products, can't go wrong.
Tough, smooth, high speed reel.
I own four of these reels and use them for many species, from perch to drum fish. They are my favorite. I found something wrong with just about every reel I've ever owned and I've owned many in my 74 years. However, these Daiwa Saltists are unbeatable in every respect.
The best!
this is the best levelwind reel I've ever used! trust me, I have been using levelwind reels for a long time, had no trouble reeling in lingcods with this. love the handle w/c can be adjusted for speed or power. drag is smooth, leveler lays line flat over the spool. love everything about this reel! check the retrieve rate on this one!

Dawia STTLW20 Level Wind
In the past used a Penn 440 level wind, always an excellent drag, alas, it got old.
Switched to the Saltist W20; GREAT reel, couldn't be happier.
Smooth drag, lots of line capacity, and 6:1 ratio reel just gets the line back fast.
Each reel has a reel foot, clamp is optional.
Hello Edward, the Levelwind does disengage when casting.
Hi Brian, Unfortunately the Daiwa Saltist Levelwind A Reels only come in Right Hand retrieve at this time. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Lines.
Hello Willie,
The sttlw20ha is right handed

Hi Lupe, The Daiwa Saltist Levelwind A Reels would work ok for surf fishing but are not ideal for casting. I would recommend a Penn Fathom II Star Drag Reel. Specifically model: FTHII15SDCS; TD Code: PEN-1754. https://www.tackledirect.com/
You can use this reel to cast, it will work but it is not ideal.
These reels do have a clicker.
