Great for trolling

Got the ld50 for a new trolling set up. An this reel is a dang work horse. Love the two speed function as well for when you get tired. You can pop it into the low gear and still gain line on'em. Absolute great reel for the money!!

only thing I dont really like about it is the round handle. Wish it had a oblong one like some of the Penns and other reels i have tested out use. Other than that i have zero complaints with it.

Great reel for vertical jigging, plus a lot more...

I have two of these reels, a STTLD20-2SPD, and a similar STTLD30-2SPD - these reels are very similar, the only difference being the 30 has a wider spool for greater line capacity. I use them for bottom fishing (vertical jigging) in Newfoundland for large cod in 150-400' of water, loaded with 50-65 pound PowerPro line. These are outstandingly excellent reels. Both the quality read more of craftsmanship and the performance of the reels in action are outstanding.

The high gear is excellent for picking up and retrieving a deep jig (with no fish on it) quickly back to the boat when planning a move to another location or to switch or re-bait lures - saves a lot of time - IT IS NOT FOR FIGHTING FISH. The low gear is excellent for cranking big fish off the bottom and fighting fish back to the boat. Switching gears is very easy. The drag is very smooth and performs well, although it's fine adjustment is a rather small knurled nob, not a 'star-drag'. Despite its small size, this is a very powerful reel. I expect it would handle small to medium sized tuna, mahi-mahi, sharks et c.

Great Boat Reel

This is a great boat reel for the Gulf of Mexico. You get all the power and torque of a much larger reel, just with less line capacity.

Smooth as silk

Quality built reel that works great for saltwater bottom fishing. Works flawlessly with no issues so far.

High gear troubles

Reel looks and feels great but, as you add more drag to fight heavy fish the reel gets almost to hard to reel in high speed (when fighting big fish over structure need high speed to get out then can use low speed). You have to put in low speed to even have a chance to pull fish up from down deep because of high speed drag problems. I have the single speed in same size and it works read more great .

I was not at all disappointed! Performs like a reel double it's cost. No problems yet and the 2 speed function is smooth and trouble free.

Great reel

Great reel for vertical jigging handles well and is very durable after trip after trip ;however, i wish that the price would be lower because its very difficult to come up with the amount of money especially on a student salary.
