Nice affordable spinning reel!
Paired with a Tsunami TSCSHDII761M Carbon Shield II Spinning Rod, this was a nice choice for an affordable reel. I'm happy with it.
Only good for one summer
I paired up my 76 favorite rod with a BG 2000. Was a nice set up for fluke season in New Jersey. However Ive been disappointed for two summers now. The real basically wore out after about 3 months. I returned it to Diawa. I will say they promptly repaired it and sent it back. Same thing happen next season. I fish it hard at least four days a week. Its just not durable enough… read more for me.
Serious Value For Money
What's not to love. Has a fast retrieve, holds a lot of line, retrieve is smooth and allows a good long cast.
The drag is kind of silent so not the reel you would let sit and listen to hear it going off. You will have to be very close to it to ensure you hear the drag singing.
Pair this with some 40 lb braid on a 9 or 10 ft rod and you have a helluva set up…

Great reel for the money
I have reels that cover trout to tuna made by Van Staal on down. These reels epitomize the phrase bang for the buck. They are very good quality, cast well, have negligible slop and last season after season without signs of corrosion or wear. I have a pair of 3000s, 5500s and 6500s all used in the surf or offshore. Highly recommended because they just do what you expect for… read more the money.
Great Reel
I have the BG 3000 I use for throwing light rigs in the surf. Its very smooth and casts great. I would highly recommend it!
Very nice reel
I have BG3000 I inshore fish with and handled many 40" reds in swift current. Also have a 4500 and 5000 I fish offshore with. Plenty of drag to handle good size red snappers. Hooked up with the taxmen several times too and had no issues with the reel. I love all 3 of mine.
Monster !!!!!! big Daiwa good
this reel is a giant, I have it but I have not tried it yet, it fits miles of line is mono as braid, it is heavy, it feels of very good quality for salt water, I think the most possible is that I use it to do coastal trolling and jiggins
Best the Best
I come from small reels the biggest was the sahara 5000 compared to the DW BG 5000 it looks like the toy shimano, the DWBG is a very heavy heavy reel but it feels like it is made of good quality I bought the 1500 / 5000 and that being the 8000 monster, I think that with the 5000 it does the same as the Shocorro 8000 from Shimano, the price was $150 for 5000 it makes it a saltwater… read more reel of better quality / price
Really happy
I have several Daiwa BG's and have been extremely happy with them. They fish like a much more expensive reel, and have never let me down. I fish the 4000 series for plugging for stripers and haven't felt outgunned with fish into the 40#s. I also have a 5000 series that I use for snagging pogies and it is a workhorse. The numbering feels a little off - 4000 the series matches… read more up closer to the size of a 5000 from Shimano.
Good Value! I Bought this BG4000 as the MQ Was Launching.
I bought this as the newer version was launching - suspecting that it was just as excellent as all the 2021 reviews said it was. It is.
I have never spent over $200 for a reel. Instead, I keep an eye out for excellent offerings in the mid/value range from trusted brands.
This Diawa is a great addition to the arsenal.
Great Reel with True Grit
Caught my first bluefin, a 55 pounder, on a BG 4500 last August off Catalilna Island, and the reel barely broke a sweat. Even after a long soak, I had plenty of line -- and smooth, powerful drag -- to land the truly beautiful fish in about 15 minutes. Impressive. But then I should not have been surprised. I'd caught yellowfin to 35lbs on this reel with no problem whatsoever before… read more the bluefin trip. Liked the 4500 so much I bought a 6500. Can't beat the price and the quality. A BG will be a regular part of my arsenal this season for throwing bait or lures on kelp patties for yellowtail and school-sized tuna. Highly recommend the BG line.
Good for the money
A little heavy. Good deal for $$.
Reel
Excellent quality for salt fishing and crabbing
Perfect all around
Perfect all around very usable size in BG 2500. Pair this with a 7 ft tsunami salt rod. Is exactly right for close running Florida pompano. Then off to Canada use it to catch walleye. Smooth easy casting. I own 4 of them now.
A 4500 on a 7'6 rod is totally fine, Nothing wrong with having a little extra drag and line capacity.
Glenn,
The Daiwa BG 4000 will work just fine for deep water tog and seabass fishing. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Blake,
The Daiwa BG 4500 spinning reel will pair nicely with the Jigging World Night Ranger spinning rod JW-NR731S-MH for snook, redfish, and bluefish. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Jeff,
The Daiwa BG 5000 would be a much better fit for your Tsunami Saltx 10'6" spinning rod. The BG 4000 would be better on a 6'-8' rod. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Kyle,
Neither the BG or the BG MQ have any magsealed components. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Joe,
The Daiwa BG 8000, both the original and the MQ, would both be able to handle most offshore fishing situations . The drag (33lb max) and line capacity (730yds / 50lb braid) is more than enough for deep drop fishing. Please let us know if there
The 4500 and larger reels have a manual bail return.Â
The best options would either be the 6500 or 8000. I would go with 40 lb braid
I would suggest aÂ
The 5000 has a dual anti reverse system
I would go with the 4500.

Yes absolutely we can spool your reel, if you add the Braid to your order just leave in the comments section at checkout that you wish to have the braid spooled onto the reel. If you would like any kind of mono backing that can be provided free of charge
I would go with the 2500 size.Â
If inshore and bay is the primary use i would go with a BG 3000 or 3500 size.
Another reel i would highly recommend is the Shimano Stradic FL 3000 or 4000 size, this would make for a much lighter and more comfortable jigging set up for a long day on the
It largely depends on the size of rod you intend on using, but the 8000 will definitely have enough power to handle larger fish, such as sturgeon.Â
Hi Henry, The Daiwa BG Saltwater Spinning Reels Dual retrieve means that the handle is interchangeable from the left or right hand side of the reel. This makes the reel universal to fish with either your left hand or right hand. Please let us know i
Hi Dan, For your specific fishing application we would recommend the larger reel of the two, The BG 4500. This will be ideal for fishing for Tarpon around bridges and will give you more line capacity. Please let us know if theres anything else we ca

Hi Chris, According to Daiwa, both the BG 3500 & BG 4000 share the same body, bail assembly/arm and rotor, you would be able to use the BG 4000 spool on your BG 3500 reel. Please let us know if theres anything else we can assist you with. Tight Line
Based on the fishing application you described I would recommend a Daiwa BG3000 size. I would also recommend using a Ocean Tackle International OTI-PB66350S Pitch Black Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-bg3000-bg-saltwater-s
The Shimano Tallus blue water 7'2" medium heavy or heavy depending on what your fishing for.
The 4000 or the 4500 Daiwa BG would pair well with the Tica 9 footÂ
The pros of a setup like that would be that the rod can handle a good amount of weight for cut bait and added sinker weight, the cons are that you would be limited to just doing that. It would be to heavy of a combo to cast all day with.Â
https://www.tackledirect.com/daiwa-bg4000-701mh-bg-saltwater-spinning-combo.html
Depending on the size of the GT your best all around bet is the 6500Â
I would go with the 4500.Â
Anything from an 7'6 or 8'6
You're loosing some drag power but also getting a much lighter reel with the 4000. I would go for the 4000.Â
The 4000 or the 4500 would be a good reel for those species, it would also depend which rod you're going to be pair it with.Â
The bg6500 would be your best bet for the yellowfin and blackfin
The 5000 or 6500 would pair well with this rod
The 4500 or the 5000 would be good
A 4000 or a 5000 series BG would pair well with the 10 foot
Depending on the rod you choose a good size would be a 3000. It is not overkill however still holding plenty of line capacity and enough drag to put the brakes on bigger tog. The 3000 will balance on most inshore fluke and tog spinning rods.Â
The knob is riveted
You may be able to purchase a different reel knob through Daiwa, here is their number (562) 375-6800
The Daiwa bg4500 or the bg5000 would work well with that 11 foot emcast.
I think the BG4000 would be good for light tackle fluke fishing.
You may be able to order one straight from Daiwa.
Hi Bryan, We recommend The Daiwa BG in the 3000 size for your application. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with!
Hi B, We recommend going with the Daiwa BG in the 5000 for both jigging and popping as the BG reels are a larger reel compared to some of its counterparts. For rods the Harrier in the 5'8 heavy or x-heavy will pair well and for popping we recommend
