The Raptor series of Avet reels are in my opinion one of the very best compact reels made in the USA money can buy. I own four and a single of every size and these reels have never failed me.!

What's new, g2?

I owned an sxj for years and was looking forward to a g2 with great anticipation.the original sxj was a good little reel with a perfect amount of line retrieved per crank to enable it to catch some pretty good sized fish. I've landed a lot of good sized gags while snapper fishing with it. The short comings oh the original is a rather marginal drag capacity and a suspect pinion gear. read more The g2 is supposed to have addressed these problems. When I spooled it up and checked the drag I was surprised to find it felt exactly like the original. Still binds at higher drag levels and makes me think it can't handle much more than the og. I set the strike at 8# and get 11.5 at full. This is right inline with 25# line, it just feels like the reel is running very close to it's redline at these numbers. The og had the same feel at these levels and couldn't handle any more. I know there are bigger reels out there for bigger loads, but I like using a small reel for various reasons and just was hoping for a bit more muscle. I thought it might be a little closer to the raptor and not closely mimicking the g2.
Kind of makes it hard to put my trust in it.

Perfect Fluke bucktailing Reel

I have a sxj 5.3 in Neptune’s Heart on a 7 foot Jigging World Nexus rod spooled with 15 pound Berkley X9. Absolutely the best reel(in my opinion) for this rod and style of fishing. Perfect size and weight with tons of power to handle big doormats.

Great reel in small package

Just as solid as the gen 1 but with nice upgrades. Antireverse has much less back play, the glide plate is nice to have, and less binding at higher drags. Great addition to the collection.

Avet is everything Made in the USA should mean. My SXJ 5.3 G2 is an absolute piece of art and is so robust feeling it's amazing. I have yet to use it but I know that Avet makes great stuff and stands behind their products 100% so I know it will perform as good as it looks.

Perfect All Around Ocean Reel

There really isn't much this reel can't do. It is not too big for inshore bottom fishing for fluke, sea bass, scup nor tog. With the upgraded G2 drag it can handle pelagics including tuna. You might be lacking a bit in line capacity with the SXJ, but with the narrower diameter of braided lines and increased drag capability, there won't be many Atlantic yellowfin you can't stop read more with this reel. Perfect reel for fishing for striped bass with bait. No lever drag beats an Avet for ease of maintenance.

Just about perfect

Huge fan of avet reels and the g2 hasn’t disappointed. Only downside is that avet hasn’t addressed the drag knob on the side. It’ll still just spin and spin so you have to give the line a tug to really see where you’re at. If it had a starting and stopping point that would make this reel or any avet reel perfect. Love their stuff.

Great Reel

This is the third Avet reel I own. These little reels are work horses. Great for so many types of fishing. Never had a problem with any of them and easy to service. As always Tackle Direct is the best online tackle shop.

Versatile Inshore Reel

Bob

The Avet SXJ G2 is well built, runs smoothly, and is perfectly sized for inshore fishing along the Georgia coast. I've used it mostly bottom fishing and jigging for slot red drum and puppy black drum, striped bass, and the smaller inshore sharks. The line capacity and drag are more than enough for anything I've encountered so far.

Awesome
