12ft XXH

I bought the 12ft XXH as a beginner rod for land based shark fishing. This rod has brought in 9.5ft and smaller sharks for the last few years and still going strong. I am noticing some wear on the eyes from using braided line. But uglystick has a great warranty program so im not worried about it.

Nice rod

I bought this rod to pair up with a Penn conventional reel that my father gave me. I plan on setting this one up for catching sheepshead from my kayak. The rod was very well packed and protected for shipment. I will definitely purchase from Tackle Direct again!

Asked by Dasuan Mason 2 years ago

I have the 7ft mh bigwater rod. Would this rod be good enough for offshore tilefish? If so what reel would be applicable to pair?

Billy - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

The 7' MH is not ideal for Tile fishing. It has a max lure rating of 6 oz, anything heavier stands a chance to break the rod. You would need an XH for Tiles.

Hi Ed, The Ugly Stik USBWBSF2550C122 Bigwater Conventional Surf rod would be a great surf rod for your Penn Warfare 30. However since its currently sold out, I would also recommend a Tica UEHA733502C TC2 Conventional Surf Rod. https://www.

HJ,
The Ugly Stix BigWater Casting rod USBW1530C701 does not have a trigger grip, it has a straight gimbal butt. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Grouper16,
The Ugly Stick Big Water casting rod USBWB4080C661 will pair well with the Penn Fathom II Star Drag reel FTHII30SDP for Grouper/Snapper. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

The SHA-0337 is going to be the better option for a kingfish setup with this reel.

I need a replacement for a squal 6.0 will this be ok

Austin - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

For the Squall 60, I'd go with any of the MH or H models in 6'6" or 7'.

Asked by William 3 years ago

Would the 8 ft heavy action rod be a good match up with a Penn Senator 9/0 for land based shark fishing?

William Larkin 3 years ago

The reel seat on the Ugly Stick Big Water won't be able to handle the 9/0 senator.
Follow this link for a rod that will handle a Senator 9/0 and work for land based shark fishing.

https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-rambw3080c66-rampage-casting-boa

Just purchased the heavy 10 ft ugly stick rated 6-12 lure weight. I also have a abu blue yonder 7000 and an Avet mxl second generation with mc cast control
Which reel do you think would pair better with the conventional rod, blue yonder or the Avet ree

Alex T 3 years ago

Although im unsure about your fishing application, in general I would recommend the Avet MXL reel, better suited for casting and overall better quality built reel.
