Good rod with a few issues.

The rod itself has held up pretty good since I purchased it 3 years ago. I usually fish for snook and jack with this rod.

The first day I used the rod a 20in snook popped the top inch and a half off the rod. I though that maybe the line got tip wrapped and and the force snapped the tip. But after I checked it out there was no sign of a wrap. The rod just snapped. Luckily read more I always fish with a guide repair kit so I was able to get the rod back into service in a few min.

Never the less I was disappointed.

That was 3 years ago, and the rod has preformed flawlessly ever since.

I picked this item up originally from a friend down in the Caribbean. I had the misfortune of it breaking on me, and missed it dearly. Use it for shore fishing when I'm taking a break from the studies. In between semesters I ended up picking a new one up stateside and have been a fishing fool since. When time permits anyways. The rod is surprisingly strong for how light weight it read more is, and even comes with a convenient carrying case. Its perfect for my use. Would recommend it to anyone.

Very nice rod for a backup kayak rod. Just the other day on my first kayak trip of the year, my rod snapped on me, luckily I had one of these rods with me and it caught a couple nice stripers! Paired with a Penn conflict 4000 and it is awesome!

I have the Tsunami Travel Kayak Boat rod and the Tsunami Travel Kayak Inshore Rod in the spinning model. I got the casting rod to fill a specific need for a bait/heavy lure rod. I paired this rod with an Okuma Komodo 364 and it mated nicely. I cast very well within the 1-3oz range and I have even lobbed out 40 yard cast with a 4oz weight + bait. The rod does feel a little heavy read more in hand. I've even used it when bottom fishing and the sensitivity was great when fishing with braid and 3oz weight over 100 feet of water. The biggest fish on this rod so far is a 30lb Cownose Ray, but my similarly built and action spinning model landed a 200lb Nurse Shark, so I'm very certain this casting model can do just the same.

PURCHASED THE TRAVEL ROD FOR A TRIP TO FLORIDA. ASSEMBLED WELL, AND STAYED TOGETHER DURING MY FISHING OUTINGS.
JUST PERFECT FOR THE INTERCOSTAL AND PIER FISHING. DID NOT HOOK INTO ANYTHING HUGE BUT DID CATCH A LOT OF FISH WITH IT.

Great rod for the money

Bought this rod for a trip to Belize. I needed a rod that can handle stingrays, nurse sharks and tarpon. The 7' heavy spinning model did an admirable job on two stingrays and a 36" tarpon. It was able to cast live herring and grunts accurately for a distance of 40 yards (that's all we needed to cast). It also was able to cast very well within the stated casting range (3/4oz to 3oz). read more Unfortunately, I didn't get to test it on a nurse shark.

Only regret is that a travel rod case was not included, unlike other travel rods offered by other companies. Would have received 5 stars otherwise.

Asked by Vic 6 years ago

Hi Mate, Is this rod suited for live bait fishing from shore? What brand of ring guides and reel seat? Are they Fuji? Are the ring guides suited for braid lines? Please advice. Thank you. Vic

Devon 6 years ago

The Heavy power models can effectively be used for live bait fishing so long as you will not be using weights exceeding 2 oz. This rod is built with both Fuji guides and Fuji reel seat. The guides are designed for use with braided line.
