Ginat Snook Slayer

The R.

I travel to Florida every summer and I use this rod to throw giant 2-5oz lures in search of any lunker Snook that might be swimming up the coast. Its hard to find a 7-8' heavy travel rod that can handle throwing heavy 8-10" swimbaits that weigh close to 4oz. I paired this rod with a Penn Slammer III 5500. It's a perfect combo. I absolutely love it. For a heavy power rod its also read more incredibly sensitive and has the perfect amount of flex. I've caught some very large Snook on it and never felt like I was even close to pushing the rod's limit. The guides are nice and big. My one and only caveat is that I wish it had a proper rubber butt cap for the aluminum gimbal. This is a beast of a rod. If I could only bring one rod with me when I travel this would be the one, hands down.

Best rod brand out there for the price

They are literally manufactured around the corner from where i live ( less than 5 miles) in Mahwah NJ and are truly fantastic. I would recommend this company to anyone, plain and simple. This is my current pole from bottom fishing to Mahi Mahi and even smaller sharks. I even caught a 300+lb shark on my tsunami reel rated for 40 lb and my tsunami pole rated for 80-100 pound line read more in a chum slick 10 ft from the boat and wrenched him in. My father went out and bought a $300 custom rod years back for it's lightness and sensitivity, but when i handed him my rod to hold so i could get a sandwich, he he wouldn't give it back and went out and bought one of these. The thing is so sensitive you can literally feel the types of ocean floor terrain you are on, and distinguish bites from that, and also it is light as a feather.

Great construction

I was looking for a travel friendly counterpart to my UglyStik Tiger casting rod. With that in mind, I needed a rod that is constructed with durability and robust components in mind. This rod fits the bill very well. Although the rod is 3-piece, it has very similar action to my 2-piece UglyStik Tiger. Guide diameters are a little smaller than other similar rods, so reeling a bigger read more knot onto the reel and casting with a bigger knot on the line may be an issue with larger diameter line. As a boat rod that sits in a rod holder for trolling application, this would be great. As a rod you hold in hand for bottom fishing for freelining bait, the rod is quite weighty.

This rod is best suited for light trolling application.

What type of reel is recommend for this rod?

Bernie De Graaf 4 years ago

The spinning can be paired with a 6000 Shimano saragosa while the casting model can be paired with the seigler small game reel. Same sizes from different reel manufactures would apply as well.

Can this rod be used for casting poppers for GTs?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Benjamin, The Tsunami Travel Kayak Boat Rods would be a little too light for GT's. Instead I would recommend a 7'6" Tsunami TSCSHDPSII762H-B Carbon Shield II Boat Popping Rod. https://www.tackledirect.com/tsunami-tscshdpsii762h-b-carbon
