The rod famous from youtube . . .

Kenny

I bought a few of these after getting hooked on everyone's favorite fluking with Gulp! youtube channels.

The rod is responsive enough for its purpose. If you're fishing a tandem Gulp! rig with the 5-6" bucktail on the bottom and teaser on top you can probably get away with a little more weight than recommended for jigging since the buoyancy of the Gulp! tends to counteract read more the weight of the jig when one is actively jigging.

Only "con" as stated on my review for the recommended/matching Quantum Accurist baitcast reel is that the two don't mate together well at the reel stand/rod's reel seat. I'm not sure whether it's the size and shape of the reel stand or the rod's reel seat but I've had the Accurist pop off the Tsunami rod while fighting fish (and it's happened to others with this youtube combo). Perhaps it's because the target market for small baitcast reels is freshwater anglers, and an inshore saltwater rod's reel seat is made to accommodate more rugged saltwater reels with a "meatier" reel stand.

I applied some teflon tape to the threads of the reel seat before tightening down the rod's locknut and it has mitigated the problem thus far.

Great action poor quality

I love and hate this rod at the same time. The action is great, but rod construction is poor. The guides after the first two, have single feet so after a while the upper guides bend then break. I have broken at least 6 of the heavy rods in the last 2 years. They all break at same place in between the 3rd and 4th guides. I have other casting rods that are in the same weight class read more that have caught hundreds of fish on that are 10 years or more old, so it's not something I'm doing wrong. The last one broke when I was reeling in a sea robin, I have one Xheavy rod that I use for trolling that seems to hold up well. There is just something wrong with the heavy version of this rod. After the first one broke I thought maybe it was my fault or a fluke thing, but after the 6th one broke I'm convinced there is a design flaw.

I now own 3 of these Tsunami Classic rods in H, XH, XXH and I honestly don't think that for the price they can be beat. They have excellent sensitivity and power, are lightweight and the components are quality. I use mine on party boats in and around Long Island for Porgies, Fluke, Seabass, Tog, Blues and Stripers.

Perfect bottom fishing rod

Great Fluking Rod

This is a great fluking rod in the bay or ocean. Got enough backbone. I use 3-4 oz bucktails on this frequently. I have this paired sometimes with my avet or quantum

Decent rod for the money

I received the TSCC701XH as a gift and upon first sight, I thought it would be good for fluking, porgies, sea bass and other bottom fish. It held up well for the first season and I really liked the action and the strength of the backbone. I actually managed to land one of the biggest skates I've ever seen while out drifting for fluke.
The one issue that I had with the rod read more is that near the tip, it the blank started to splinter. I have not abused and only seen ten fishing out on the salt. I am assuming that this is not typical, as I ave not read many problems like this. If anyone from Tsunami reads this, I would love to ask about this rod or the next iteration. At this current price, I would totally consider purchasing this rod again.

As advertised. Use it at offshore reefs buck tailing and handles 3 ounce without issue

I bought this rod to replace one just like it that got broken. However the quality has slipped over the years. Doesn't come close to the Tsunami rod of yesterday. Save your money.

Solid Rod

Tsunami is a brand name I can trust. Cork handle on this model gives you that sensitivity that you need when searching close to bottom, great rod for feeling things out and getting to know what's down there. As for strength it's got it and more.

Great rod for flukeing at an excellent price. Sensitive, light, and well built

Excellent Fluke Rod

Had my best season fishing with this Tsunami TSCC 701XH. From back bay flats to 15 miles offshore, this rod got the job done. It is sensitive enough to feel even the smallest fish and has the backbone to crank down on a doormat. I personally aim for the extra heavy rod because it feels better while jigging. Little to no rod bounce when jigging a fluke rig with 4-5oz of lead. I fished read more the same rod, but heavy (701H) and chose the XH as my go to.

Bang for your buck

Nice rod at a nicer price. Use this rod bucktailing for fluke. It's a good sensitive rod. No issues

701H is good..... but be careful with the 701XH

I bought both versions of these rods. Very light so it will not put a strain on your arm. The 701H was purchased specifically for jigging lighter bucktails, and works very well. I mainly utilize this on my kayak in shallow water up to around 20ft

However, the 701XH was purchased for heavier bucktails or chicken rig setups. Took it out the other day and while trying to read more break off from a snag, the rod snapped in half. Very disappointing to say the least

Thanks for your answer! Im a bit of a novice when it comes to what rods fit what purpose. I apologize for all these questions. Is the tsunami TSCCB 76 1 W good for bottom jigging? Its rated 20-50 and lure wt 2-12oz. I put line on and attached a 16oz sinke

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Sean, The rod you are inquiring about is rated up to 12oz you would not want to fish with more weight on the rod then that. If you put more weight than the manufacturer has allowed on the rod you risk over loading the rod and breaking the rod. Th

Thanks for your answer! The rock fishing trip Im going on will require up to 16oz size torpedo sinkers. So an XXH rod cant handle that?

Thanks

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Sean, Unfortunately the Tsunami TSCC 701XXH Classic Casting Rod is only rated up to 6oz max. If you try to put anymore sinker weight and try to set a hook this could break the rod easy with 16oz. Instead I would recommend a Ocean Tackle Internati

Do you think this rod in 7' 3X Heavy is good to pair with a avet sx for catching blackfish.

Yes, the XXH model paired with an Avet SX would be a good set up for tog fishing.
