Smooth inshore casting rod

Jonathan

I’ve been a loyal St.Croix owner for 20 years, but I was looking for a change. My goal was to get a 7’6” med or med/hvy casting rod for inshore. After researching Toadfish, I decided to get one being that I was heading to the beach for 7 days. I paired it with a Shimano Curado 201XGK with 15lb Power Pro Slick and 4ft of 20lb Yo-Zuri Flouro leader. I used a double uni knot to read more tie the braid and flouro line.

For six days, I hit the surf around Kitty Hawk and NagsHead six to ten hours a day. I threw Zman EZshrimp and DieZel minnows on 1/4oz trout eyes, DieZel minnows on 3/8oz Redfish eyes, Spro 3/8oz and 1/2oz bucktails rigged with FishBites. I was impressed how the rod handled a wide range of lures. It didn’t feel too stiff for the 1/4oz lures nor too flimsy for the 1/2oz lures. The sensitivity and strength of the rod is great. I caught Blues, Flounder, Sea Mullet, and Puppy Drum. Throwing the rod all day wasn’t taxing on my arms, but I’m a tournament bass guy…LOL

The grip stays tacky even when wet. For the size of the rod, it’s a tad heavy when compared to other rods of the same size. The weight is the only reason I couldn’t give it a 5 star. Outside of that, it’s great. I would buy another one. Tackle Direct is great as well and they ship super fast. Also, Toadfish is the only rod manufacture that is directly involved in conservation by restoring oyster beds.
