Awesome rod

This rod is very lightweight and it have some features i love from it. The handle cork tape and the guides are just ready to handle the saltwater game and i guess it will give me many years of fun. I recommend this product.

9' Medium Power, Moderate Fast Action

Matt

I have several more expensive rods but this is one of my favorites. It's moderate fast action is easy to cast well. Some of my more expensive faster action rods take more practice to cast accurately and have a tendency to break live bait off of the hook during the cast. This slightly slower action is great for not loosing live shrimp and mud minnows. It can also cast relatively read more light weights for a good distance. I can consistently get 70 plus yards with just a 1 1/2 oz. Breakaway brand sputnik sinker and a single drop bottom rig with a medium shrimp as bait. That's pretty good for a small 9' surf rod and a light weight. I can get more distance with some of my other small surf rods but they are not as smooth or forgiving.

It’s okay for the Price

I’ve had the 9ft 1/2 - 2 1/2oz for 5 years with no issues, when I fish at least four times a week. It deff has backbone to catch Big bass and gator blues. I will say it’s a stiff rod and doesn’t have as much rod sensitivity as I would like. I use this rod as my jetty surf rod, I will say there are deff better rods out there in the $150-220 range, you can find.

Love it!

It’s one of the cheaper rods that I’ve been using but it’s one of my favorites! Nice backbone and casts well. The 10’ 1-4 has handled 1/2oz bucktails up to 4oz sinkers with a chunk without any issues.

9' Medium casts horribly

Dan

I was in a bind with a broken stick and needed a replacement fast. My old rod was a 9' M 1-4oz and was mainly used for flicking plastics, tins and light plugs. I mainly stayed under 2 oz for the rod so I figured a 1/2 oz. - 2 oz. stick might serve my needs better as I'd mostly be right in the heart of its weight class. Well, that might still be the case but definitely not this rod. read more I fumbled through my plug bag to find something this rod threw well and never found it. The recovery of the rod is just awful and the tip sensitivity is none existant. The action on this rod is moderate to slow, and in a 50/50 split that results in an unsensitive noodle.

Garbage

My 8ft medium 2 piece broke in less than 10 casts. I wasn't even on a fish. It was rated up to 2oz and I was throwing less than 1.5oz. I emailed St Croix and wanted a refund. They said send the rod and we'll see what we can do. I expected at least an opportunity for a different model if not my refund. I told them I didn't want the rod and I didn't want to waste my time. The rod read more arrived at their shipping location and then waited 8 days to contact them. I got an email saying they sent another top half with the rod. Terrible rod and terrible customer service. And I missed a trip I was waiting for all year because they want to sell an inferior and overpriced product.

I've matched this pole with poles $50-$75 and its stands up to togh fishing. Like the rocks out at the lighthouse out ast in MTK, the mecca of striper fishing.....it stood up to the test there so t can do work anywhere. good for beginers anda god back up or even main setup. Pair up with tht new Tsunami shield reel with 13 seals for under $120 andyournlooking at a real nice set read more up thats togh as nails and canstand up to the toughest conditions.

Garbage. Stay away!

I've went through 3 of these rods already and all 3 broke in the first month of use. I had it paired with the shimano Calcutta 400B and casting is beautiful. Major down side is the quality is complete garbage when it comes to the backbone fight of a fish. All 3 times mine broke were all above the middle where the 2 sections come together. The first one snapped fighting a 20# fish read more that i still managed to muscle in d3espite a bad rod lol....I thought it was a fluke so i did the warranty, got the second pole and 2 weeks later it snaps fighting another fish. I couldn't believe it so I went to my local dealer to see what can be done this time. Once again I did the warranty claim (each time costed me my own shipping cost which was over 25$ due to the size of package) so now I have went through over 50$ extra on my original purchase of the rod and a week later after receiving my 3rd rod it breaks in the same spot!. Clearly this is a defect in the rod as online you will now find several other claims on the rod breaking. Wish I did the research and stayed away from this rod and wasting money. If your looking for a quality rod best to just get what you pay for. When asked st Croix what is being done about the defective rod and they claim there's no issues with the rod lineup itself and was just my rods that were defective smh..... however if this was the case then why are there reports all over the internet of this same issue happening left and right. St Croix needs to get their heads out of the beach sand and fix these mistakes. Till they do I'm not going to trust anymore st Croix rods.

Decent

This is a great rod for my heavier plugging applications. It's true to its rating and I have had no issues casting 5oz and a chunk.
Paired with a Van Staal VSX250, it is an unstoppable combo for big blues and other large species.
Tackle Direct did a great job packing and shipping the rod. 10/10.

The rod is ok, but Ive broken 2 of them, they just dont make them like they used to. If you dont fish every day it would probably be fine. Its ony$25 for the replaacement blank when you break it so add that onto your price.

Awesome Rod!

The 10' rod is very nice and well made, I have other models of the rod but this is my favorite. Not heavy and balances well with a Penn SSV6500BLS. Got to test it out and it handled a 25lb striper with ease. I highly recommend it!

Very well made rod

The St. Croix Triumph Surf is my primary rod for everything when it's not to rough. It's paired with a Penn Conflict 6000 and it balances nicely.

On the 2 pc. 10' 6" triumph surf rod, what are the breakdown sizes of the 2 pcs, is it 50/50 (equal sizes), 70/30 (one 7' and one pc 3.5'). Thank you

Customer Service 10 years ago

It breaks down to roughly 6.5' by 4.5'. (Over estimating to be certain I don't give you short enough lengths for storage.)

Kayak angler travel to fla by plane fish stripper and blues summer kingfish spanish mackeral. Winter plan to travel by air what's best triumph models

Customer Service 10 years ago

The 7' Triumph Surf would be perfect, except it is only available as a 1 piece rod. For kayak use, and 8' might be too long, but it is available in a 2 piece model. Take a look at the Tidemaster travel spinning rods, model TSRS80M2.

Asked by dale 10 years ago

What is the distance, in inches, from the mid point of the reel seat to the end of the butt cap? Specifically the 8' and 9' models.

Customer Service 10 years ago

For the 8', it is 19". For the 9', it is 22.5"

Asked by Patrick 9 years ago

What reel is a good match for plugging with the triumph 10 ft. med power?

Customer Service 9 years ago

Shimano Stradic FJ 5000 would be great with that rod.

Asked by Alon 9 years ago

what would be a good reel for the 8' and 9' triumph surf?

Customer Service 9 years ago

There are a lot of great options at various price points. Take a look at the Penn Battle 5000, Quantum Cabo 40, or the Shimano Stradic FJ 5000. All of these are great reels and offer smooth retrieves and great drag.

Asked by Alex 9 years ago

What model will pair well with a Penn SSV6500BLS?

Frank 9 years ago

Alex, this really will fit well with the 9, 10, or 10'6 models.

Asked by Jim whalen 8 years ago

I have a mint condition penn 710z spinning reel,I like this reel very much would a 8 ft triumph be a good match for this?

David 8 years ago

The 710z is way too much reel for that rod. For a reel that big I would recommend a 10-11ft rod.

Asked by Mark Gardner 5 years ago

Will the 8' model fit inside a 2 1/2" travel tube? (Wondering if the first guide is small enough to fit)

Bernie 5 years ago

The travel tube won't accomodate the St.Croix surf rod

Asked by Aram 7 years ago

Which rod would you recommend pairing with a Shimano Stradic Ci4+ 4000?

Donald 7 years ago

The 7 ft St Croix Triumph Surf rod will be the best fit for the Shimano CI4 4000.

Asked by walt 7 years ago

Hi, what spinning reel would be a good match for St Croix TSRS90M2. For jig, plugging, casting lures etc

Devon 7 years ago

Good reels that fall within the price range of this rod would be the Daiwa BG, or the new Tsunami Shield. I would recommend the 4000 or 4500 size for the BG and the 5000 size for the shield.

Asked by Rick Reynolds 7 years ago

Which Penn Battle II would you recomend for the 7'-0" Triumph TSRS70M

Donald 7 years ago

The Penn Battle 4000 reel would be a good fit St. Croix TSRS70M Triumph Surf Rod. Thank you for considering TackleDirect for your fishing needs.

Asked by Andrew Donovan 6 years ago

Which reel would you recommend for a 10’ Triumph Surf Rod? Will be targeting strippers and blues from the beach.

Donald 6 years ago

The Penn Slammer 4500, Penn Spinfisher 4500, Daiwa BG 4000 and Shimano Ultegra XTD 5500 would be good options to pair with the St Croix Triumph Surf rod 10'.

Asked by Nicholas 6 years ago

Which rod will work best with the Van Staal VR 150?

Devon 6 years ago

The 9', 10', and 10'6" rods would pair well with a VR 150. Which rod to go with depends on the weight of the lures you'll be casting and whether or not you need a longer rod for additional casting distance.

Asked by Nickbrig 6 years ago

How would the 9’M and the 10’M Triumph pair up with Van Staal vs150x? The vs150 only weighs 12.04 oz

Devon 6 years ago

A VS 150 would be the ideal size for both the 9 and 10 foot rods.

Asked by Will 3 years ago

Is this 50/50 split?

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

Yes, these rods are a 50/50 split.

Asked by Sam 6 years ago

Asked by Mason Burke 6 years ago

Looking into getting the 9 foot model. It says that the maximum lure weight recommendation is 2 1/2oz. I often through the Super Strike zigzag which is 2 3/8. Do you think this rod will have enough guts to throw that zigzag pretty easily? Or should I cons

Bernie 6 years ago

The 9 foot Triumph surf rod will be able to handle 2 3/8's oz lures easily.

Asked by Michael 5 years ago

I am interest in throwing lighter plugs, the 7/8 an 1 oz Sp minnows with the TSRS100M2 and was wondering if anyone on your staff had experience with this rod an lighter plugs. I would like to go with a 10 ft rod but can go down to the 9 if it would be bet

Bernie 5 years ago

I would stick with the 10 foot rod, it gives you a little more versatility and the rod will still load properly on lighter plugs
