Works as expected. More backbone than the freshwater version, which is nice for trolling pike. St Croix quality. Reel seat not Fuji, but seems to be of good quality.

Perfect kayak rod!

Have multiple St Croix rods that I take out on my kayak but this one has quickly become my go to rod for most everything. Casts great and has backbone to land large reds and even 3’ sharks!

I purchased the 7'6 Medium on 11/26/2020 and its now almost 9 months and I've had zero issues with it. It has handled fish of all sizes and the sensitivity is amazing. Great for both live bait and lures.

This is a new model for St. Croix, but having owned many, I thought I'd set my wife up with a new rig. Very impressed with quality of this rod for the price point. Great fit and finish with nice cork, real seat and quality guides. Really like the longer handle on it. Lots of back bone, but seems to be more sensitive than my older Premiers. Paired with a Spheros 4000. We look forward read more to catching more New England stripers on it!

7'6" MHF with Van Staal VSX150

This thing feels beefy. The big one has a nice reel seat that easily holds reels bigger than 3000's. Feels nice with the 150 (@12oz+ with full spool). It's a nice rod, to step into St. Croix. It's nicer than any combo rod you're going to buy, and if it ever breaks, you can always take advantage of St. Croix's gold star upgrade to get into a little nicer rod for not much money. So read more fish the heck out of it.

If you're new to Florida inshore/landbased saltwater fishing (and want to start with 1 rod), do yourself a favor and start with a 7' medium rod. It'll fit in your car (hopefully) and can throw soft plastics, live bait and even some smaller/lighter plugs.

If you can do 2 rods a medium light and a medium heavy rod will allow you to go after a wider variety of species in more situations (think flats, boat, land, jetty/pier).

These rods seem to have a pretty fast action (a lot of the St. Croix line up is known for that).

Billy - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

7' medium or 7' medium heavy depending on the weight of your cork/lure.

Asked by John 3 years ago

Would a shimano baitrunner D 4000 pair well with this rod

William Larkin 3 years ago

The Baitrunner 4000 would pair well with a St croix inshore rod. It would feel most balanced on the 7'6" option

Asked by Dan 3 years ago

Looking for a rod for stripers and blues along inshore waters of LBI, would you recommend med or med heavy. I have a penn battle 4000 that I will be using

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

It really comes down to personal preference. Either rod would pair nicely with that size reel. Personally, I would use the MH version because you have more leeway with what lures you can throw effectively.
