Med fast paired with a shimano Stella 3000. Caught a 36in and a 38in striped bass on the set up. No problem at all. Loved it. If your looking for a light durable set up this is it. Plus it can handle more then that.

St Croix XIS70MHF Legend Xtreme Inshore Spinning Rod

Great sensitive rod with plenty of backbone.
Comes with a protective rod sock.
The handle takes a little getting use to. Great hook keeper that doesn’t dig into your hand.
I have this paired up with a Sustain 4000 the model with the kickstand and it pairs well with it.
If price is a issue I would consider the new Avid (teal) instead which is also a great read more rod that has the same hook keeper now. The previous gen Avid (brown) hook keeper would die into your fingers where it was placed and designed.

Great rod

Excellent Rod - extremely well built. I have the MF and MLF and either is excellent paired with a 3000 series for light inshore trout and redfishing. 15 year warranty is proof that St. Croix believes in their products and stands behind them.

The rods stained on the handles with the first use. St Croix states that is not a manufacturing defect and want to charge me$80 per rod to replace. They are right it is a design defect! $400 rod -pretty pathetic

Amazing rod

I have had this rod for two yrs now and have caught many fish. My biggest is a 7 lb catfish. It's precise, very sensitive and casts amazing. It's so sensitive that I can feel the objects while the sinker is moving on the bottom and can normally tell if it's a hard or soft bottom etc given the right circumstances (wind, current etc). Solid and have shown no wear what so ever and read more looks new apart from some dirt that I need to clean :) The handle is amazing to and the material is great to the touch and easy to clean. I have the medium spinning with 30 lb braid but looking to change to 15 lb instead. Using with a shimano sustain 3000. Amazing combo, very light and very balanced! Can fish all day. I use it with many rigs, paternoster rig, carolina rigs, drop shots, all kinds stuff. I've even casted a paternoster rig with a 3 oz sinker and no problems!

Best Inshore Rod!!!!!!

Have 2 of these so far paired them with the new Stradic 3000FK's with 15 pound power pro braid throwing the hybrid Live target Shrimp 3/8oz lure for Snook,Reds, & Trout. Cast the shrimp a mile and couldn't ask for much more out of this rod. I have yet to have a problem with the white turning yellow and I fish just about everyday. My only complaint is I wish they would make a 7'6" read more or even an 8'. I plan on adding a MLF and MHF to the arsenal of legend xtremes I have.

An extension of the arm

Combined with a Quantum Smoke inshore this is my go to combo for casting inshore artificial baits for drum and speckled trout. The grip is comfortable for all day sight casting and has plenty of power to get the lure out to the grass line.

Couldn't ask for more!

I have been an ugly stik man since childhood. I finally decided to see what all the hype was about with premium rods. The first time I held it, I knew I was in a different ballgame. In terms of sensitivity and weight, I had never felt anything like it before. I am a believer! Great product! I will buy another.

A great product

Good day,

I search a softer rod of the st croix avid inshore VIC70MHF and a stronger rod of the st croix triumph TRS70MF is the st croix legend extreme XIS70MF a good option?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

The XIS70MF would be a good middle ground between those two other rods.

Asked by Tim 6 years ago

Just purchased this rod from tackle direct (7' MHF) spinning and was wondering what would be a computable reel for it. I really like the new Penn conflict 2. Would this be a good match or is there something better? Thanks.

Bernie 6 years ago

A smaller conflict two would pair up nice with the St.Croix legend extreme. I would take a look at the Shimano Nasci to pair with this rod. https://www.t

Pairing with shimano stradic C3000 spinning reel. Which model of this rod would pair best?

Paul Olah 3 years ago

I suggest either the Medium Light or Medium rod. Either one of these would pair nicely with the C3000.

HI guys,I have a stella fi 4000 i want to pair it with a st croix saltwater Extreme wich model do you recommend.

Donald 7 years ago

The St Croix XIS70MF Legend Xtreme Inshore Spinning Rod would balance best with the FI Stella 4000 spinning reel.

Asked by Keith Sullivan 8 years ago

Do you know if this rod would get sun bleached and faded after awhile? I like the color, and this rod but I have a few cheap old white poles that turn yellowish and look bad after a few years, I wouldn't want to pay $400 if that would happen with this rod

Brandon 8 years ago

Hello Keith. St. Croix has a very good reputation of their rods being able to stand up to whatever you or nature can throw at them. We have never heard of any fading issues with these rods and can not see this being an issue.

Asked by geoff 9 years ago

Do you have a 6'' model as 7'' is to long for our style of fishing in the top end of Australia?

Customer Service 9 years ago

The Legend Xtreme Inshore rods are not offered in a model less than 7'. However, St. Croix does make the Xtreme in a shorter freshwater version. It is available in lengths from 5'9" to 6'10". Take a look at them under Freshwater rods > St. Croix > Xtreme.
