Great Ultralight rod

Dave

I have had an AVS70ULF for many years and have loved it. I recently got my mother to start using spinning reels, which made her want to get a nice setup.

The AVS66ULF was my choice to set her up with a very nice combo, wich I paired with a Vanford. After just one evening fishing, she already loves it, and got to pull in a nice little bass that was peeling drag. read more class="pdPrReviewPhotos">

Very well balanced

Bought Avid AVS70ULM2 ultra light rod that balances very well with my Luvias AirIty 2500S-XH-QD reel. Moderate action is much to my liking while playing a fish though while casting ultralight lures under 1 gram, I do feel that a fast action rod with same specifications might have done better. An excellent rod nevertheless.

Giving it a 4 star in frustration as my 225 read more $ Avid AVS70ULM2 rod did not come with a rod sleeve. All my JDM rods come with a nice rod sleeve with rod model and company logo on it which really looks great. I do not understand why a company of the stature of St Croix can't do the same. They may charge 12 $ extra if they feel it is essential but please, do provide a rod sleeve with the rod. This is what most high end rod companies do.

My best spinning rod yet

I bought the 7' M Avid for shakyhead, tub, dropshot etc. I have caught several fish on it so far and its my lightest and most sensitive M power rod yet. I recommend it and its hard to beat St Croix warranty.

Amazing

The rod is super light. I picked the ml extra fast for drop shot. This rod feels great in hand and is super sensitive. Can’t go wrong with st.croix.

My favorite spinning rod, especially for casting to shallow walleyes and smallies.. .That is saying a lot because I have a lot of spinning rods , including several Loomis rods. Love this rod !

75% of my rods are St. Croix rods. I wanted a 2-piece spinning rod for travel, but this rod performed so well, that I now use it for all of my shad and trout fishing.

I liked it so much that I bought a second one.

I love the Avid series!

Great rod! I have this one, an avid inshore, a 10' avid surf (owned the 8', 11' and 12' as well) - and two Legend Tournament Bass rods.
Can't beat St Croix for rods - and their customer service is amazing!

Bought this rod(AVS66LF2) for a light freshwater set up. Casts are smooth and is very sensitive, can't really go wrong with St. Croix products, reputation speak for itself. Also, with the avid series you get a limited lifetime warranty!

Very pleased

Love this rod. Very sensitive with limber enough of a tip to throw unweighted plastics, but the necessary backbone needed to get a solid hook set.

It broke easly

This rod was my worst.
It braked apart twice, i got the second for my warranty but broke too.

I PURCHASED THIS ITEM ALONG WITH THE SAME ACTION ROD IN THE 6 FT 9 INCH LENGTH AND LOVE THEM BOTH FOR SPECKLED TROUT FISHING.

Would a daiwa Procyon 2000 fit on the 8ft ml for largemouth and small stripers?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Will, The Daiwa Procyon 2000 will fit on the St. Croix AVS80MLM2 Avid Series Spinning Rod but would be a little light for stripers and large mouth. I would recommend a St. Croix AVS70MHF Avid Series Spinning Rod. https://www.tackledirec

I'm catching small largemouth bass maybe up to 4lbs, but most are 1 to 2 lbs. I was looking at the TATULA 1000 SPINNING REEL and want to pair it up with a ST. CROIX rod
I was thinking the 6ft 3inch AVID AVS MLF would do fine. Any suggestions ?

Brian 4 years ago

That would make for a great pairing. Would balance out well and would be fun when you do get into a 4lber.

Asked by Van 4 years ago

Which one of these would you pair up with a 5k Saragosa or a 5k Stradic for Red Drum, Cobia and large rockfish? For casting and jigging. TY!

Devon Hicken 4 years ago

This is the freshwater series of Avid rods. You will want to select from the Avid Inshore series. They are heavier rods with power and action more suited for saltwater applications. For the species you mentioned I would suggest a 7' or 7'6", Medium Heavy
