Very nice rod for the price

The first fish I caught with my BXC71MF was a very unhappy 36" musky on a 3/8 oz spinnerbait. That same week I caught numerous other bass a handful more musky on the rod. The bass weren't an issue to get in but some of the musky tested how much bend this rod had. I think it's safe to say if this rod can handle the muskies that it could probably handle just about any bass you read more throw at it. Caught all kinds of fish through the fall on the rod and I can't say I ran into any hiccups. The rod tip is super sensitive and I can feel my spinnerbait clip weeds easy but that being said it is pretty flexy so I wouldn't go throwing anything much heavier than a 1/2oz on a medium rod. I don't do much jigging but I'm pretty sure this rod would be excellent for jigging given it's sensitivity. That being said St. Croix does make better rods but you will have to pay for that extra quality. For these being on the lower end of St. Croix's lineup they certainly don't come off as feeling cheap. I'd buy another one with absolutely no qualms.

Awesome rod. I just bought another one a few weeks ago because I was so happy with the one I got for Christmas. Super light, durable, comfortable, and reliable. Can’t go wrong

The debate of $100 and under rods ends with this St Croix Bass X. Hands down the best one I used yet. The quality, feel and action from a higher end rod at a affordable price.

For $100, you can't beat this! Rod is light, sensitive, feels great, and is St. Croix quality. Best rod in the $100 on the market. I picked up the 7'1" MH and love it, will likely have a 6'6" MH soon as well.

The 7,4 medium heavy moderate fast st croix bass x rod. What would be the best baits to

Use with that rod.

Ryan 5 years ago

Being that it has a mod/fast taper, that specific model would be a good option for throwing treble hooked baits like a lipless crankbait.

Asked by Zach 5 years ago

Is the 7’4 heavy good for swimbaits, jigs, texas rigs and the occasional spinnerbait?

The St.Croix Bass X rods aren't available in a heavy, maybe a different model St.Croix?

Asked by Lt 2 years ago

I was looking at these rods and the dobyns fury and wonder what blank is the best for texas rigging and using frogs from shore. Its my first setup and i was thinking of getting a 74 heavy paired with an SLX 150

Bernie - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hello LT,
While a heavy power rod would be perfect for throwing a frog from shore it may not be the best option for Texas rigging as the rod wouldn't load up and cast correctly. You may be better off with a medium heavy that will be a bit more versatil

Asked by Jason 4 years ago

What is the 7'1 MHF bass x best used for?

Ryan 4 years ago

That is probably the most versatile rod in the line up. It would be ideal for most bottom-contact applications like a Texas rig, Jig, Megabass Dark Sleeper, etc. It would also work for single-hook moving baits like a spinnerbait, chatterbait, smaller swim

Asked by Shane 7 years ago

Are these available on floor in the store?

Donald 7 years ago

The St Croix Bass X Rods are on the showroom floor. If there is 1 rod in particular you are looking at and it isn't on the floor it will be in our warehouse or we would have to order the rod for you.
