The new Shimano Tiralejo Surf Spinning Rods are made with the all new Shimano C4S blank construction which utilizes high modulus blank and wraps 4 outer layers of 90 degree graphite. The C4S construction is a unique design that uses Carbon "C" a 4 layer process "4" and slit carbon tape "S" while usi...ng high modulus carbon "HM". THe rod is wrapped with an inner and outer layer of carbon tape over two layers of carbon pre-preg. This design significantly increases the strength of the rod but more importantly increases the recovery rate which in turn allows you to cast farther and more accurately as it helps eliminate blank twist when put under a heavy load. This new rod construction will increase the hoop strength for maximum pulling power without inhibiting the sensitivity.Custom long cast concept guide spacingFuji stainless steel frame with alconite insertsBlack shrink tube gripFuji DPS reel seat

Tiralejo Surf Rods has been a workhorse for surf fishermen. I have been using Tiralejo for many years. Just received the new 9 ft 6 inch version in April 2022, fishes a few times and the epoxy is cracked at the joint section. Sent it back for warranty and Shimano declined the warranty. Shimano claimed that a big fish was caught and the joints were not inserted tight. See photos,… read more rod is only a month old, fished a few times and caught gator blues.
These rods are awesome.
I own two 12 foot tiralejo surf rods that I regularly take to Cape Hatteras. They have never let me down. One of them has a 6500 bait runner and the other has a Saragosa. Both reels are spooled with braid. They are sensitive enough to feel a puffer fish bite and strong enough to catch a 7 foot shark. They can handle everything the surf can throw at them. One bit of advice.… read more If you are using braid with a mono or fluorocarbon leader I would use a double uni knot or a knot where the tag end of the mono or fluorocarbon is toward the reel. If the tag end is facing the tip it will get caught in the guides and get tangled. Dont use an Albright knot, you will get frustrated. This is a great rod and its very durable and light.
Awesome blank!
I purchased the 12' Medium-Heavy 2-6 oz to throw 3-4 oz sinkers with bait to catch Pompano and Whiting in FL. I paired it to one of my Shimanos Ultegras 5500 Ci4+. Here are my initial impressions. The rod is very light (17oz) and does cast very far, I got at least 80-100 yards on my casts using 25-ft of shock leader (mono 30-lb) and Powerpro braid 15-lb as main line plus a double… read more dropper rig with sandleas/clam and a 4oz sinker Compared to my other rods, Carolina Cast Pro 13' 3-6 oz, it is a stiff rod and when you hammer it, you feel the recoil back to your body, may be I have to adapt my casting style but I did not like the recoil from the rod recovery. As far as sensitivity, the tip could be softer to aid in bite detection (when sitting on the sand spike) and to aid when reeling the fish (to prevent ripping off the hook off the mouth of my target fish). However, I was able to catch 3 Pompano my very first time with this rod. In terms of the craftsmanship and finish, I was not impressed at all. The guide wraps are well done but nothing that screams top of the line, the transitions between the but cap or reel seat to the rod blank are very austere (may be to save weight? no ring or beveled epoxy from butt to blank and a flat ring between reel seat and blank). It does not have any cushioned coasters or wrapping above/below the reel seat to make fish fighting more comfortable, just rubber flock covering the blank. I would say the overall finishing is comparable to rods that are half the price. The butt rubber cap is Pack bay, seat and guides are Fuji. The action of the rod may be more fast than the advertised moderate-fast. Last, the tip top guide is a size 8 which in my opinion may add friction when you use a thick 30-lb mono shock leader. My other distance rods have a tip top ring size 10. Overall a nice rod that gets the job done.
Great rods
I bought two of the 96 for my daughters to use for surf fishing. I paired them with Spinfisher 5500 long casts. I really like the combination. I read in a past review that the grip is very narrow and will wear out your hand during a long fight. I agree, so I did a paracord wrap around the grips on each side of the real seat. IMO, it looks good and it should help my daughters… read more hold the rod if they hook into a big Red or Drum.
9'6" Medium Rod Fantastic Surf Rod
Love this rod. Bought it in summer of 2019 and the sensitivity and casting distance of lures is truly superb. The size make this very easy to handle and with the matches lure weight and the Shimano Baintrunner 6000D i'm running on it, it casts as far as i need while still being able to gets cut bait and smaller baits in out into the troughs. Basically perfect
This is a great rod. Used for 2 seasons and zero complaints. I do wish it were a little thinner as it can feel a little bulky in the hand but it is super light and very easy to cast.
Awesome cast
cast very far with super ease. Am loving it
Nice feel
Casts beautifully!
Really enjoy this blank
Its a slim handle thats great for plugging. I have no problem throwing 1/2 and 3/4 with this. Its really sensitive for when im catching bait too
Great heavy duty rod
great for snag and drop off the surf and throwing big plugs handles big fish very well
High quality surf rod for light use
I own two of these rods, the 9'6" and the 10'6". Both are fantastic light plugging rods! I've thrown plugs up to 3oz with the 10'6" and 2.5oz with the 9'6". They both throw SP minnows and other light plugs very well! And they work pencil poppers and other topwater lures nicely. Solid backbone in both rods, and a nice uniform bend. Easy to forget it's a 2 piece. Overall a very nice… read more surf rod for light use.
My Main Surf ROD
This paired up with VR 150 can Dominate surf. Cast Far and blank material is very nice.
Great rod ever I had
When I cast it, it is longer than any others that I have
Yes, this rod does come in a 50/50 split.
TRS96MA weighs 10.4 oz's.
I recommend using a Shimano Saragosa 5000.
The 10' Tiralejo we just brought in last year. All other models we have been selling since 2015.
The 12' Tiralejo paired with an Ultegra would be a great setup for distance casting with bait rigs not exceeding 6 oz. If heavier weights are needed to hold bottom where you are fishing, I'd suggest the Penn Carnage II model number CARSFII 3065S12, or th
The Shimano Saragosa 6000 would balance out the Shimano TRS106MA Tiralejo Surf Spinning Rod very nicely.
There have not been any 10'6'' Shimano Tiralejo Surf Spinning Rods to my knowledge returned. This rod is very light yet a powerful rod.
The butt section of the rod measures 55" and the tip section of the rod measure approximately 79". Since it is a heavy rod rated for 3 to 6 ounces with a fast action tip it would be ideal for fishing with heavier surf lures. The Saragossa 8000 can definit
Yes, this model rod is a 50/50 split.
Yes that will pair well. Good choice.Â
Honestly, we feel both of these rods will put you at an equal disadvantage at the canal. To fish it to your advantage, we feel that a rod at least 6" longer is needed. The extra length is not only for casting distance but for fighting ability as well. You
Hello Wade. These rods come with a one year limited warranty from Shimano. Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions.
Hello Mike. Picking your rod would rely heavily on the tackle you would be using while fishing, your location, and the fish you would be targeting. Feel free to give one of our product specialists a call and we will be more than happy to point you in th
The 10'6" rod will be great for those lures. We test casted using an SP Minnow and were able to throw it a mile.
The 12' comes in at 16.2 oz. The 11' comes in at 15.2 oz.
From the end of the butt to the lowest thread on the reel seat is 24".

I asked them the same question. They said that the ratings on the rods are accurate. You can use them for bait, but be careful not to over load them. These are not "8 and bait" rods. On the other hand, the new reels will add a lot of distance to your c

That setup does seem a bit much for casting to surf perch. A 8 or 9 foot rod paired with a smaller 5000 reel would have sufficedÂ
Hello Roger, That would balance out very nice and you can even go down a size on the reel and it would still pair up wellÂ
The 11 ft medium heavy would probably be your best all around around for casting plugs without feeling much fatigue.Â
The rods rated up to 3 oz's, paired with the right reel and that would make a good popping combo for Mahi.
The rod can be paired with most surf reels.
11 foot MH will help you get out over the breakers probably your best choice.

I think the 6000 will balance better the 5000 may not be heavy enough or hold enough line capacity.Â

For lure weight check the lure weight column on the product page. Shimano does not have the weight of the rod available.Â
Yes, the 11' MH would be a great option for the canal.
The best Tiralejo to match up with the Saragosa 6000 will be the 10' based on what you are describing. The 10' MH with the 1.5-5oz lure rating will allow you to cast lures within that range plus some bait fishing. When bait fishing, you really want to tak
