Shimano Talavera Boat Rod

Fishing D.

My favorite rod for inshore and light offshore fishing, I own three models. Caught lots of porgies, blackfish, black seabass, blues, cod, and haddock with this rod. The medium-heavy is fine for porgies in early spring, but I preferred the heavy model for seabass, haddock and blues. Just purchased a extra-heavy model to handle hefty cod when using high-low rigs in Nov - Dec since read more I often catch two fish at a time. Lightweight rod with a sensitive tip and a sturdy backbone. The MH and H models pair nicely with a Daiwa Saltist 30H, will probably use my Torium 16PGA real with the XH. Nice performance for the price.

Good Rod for Price Point

It's not a Terez nor Terrmar, but it's not priced like those, either. Good general purpose rod, I let my kids and guests use it with no complaints.

Great rod

Paired this rod with a Speedmaster II for tarpon in Boca Grande pass. Rod performed well on large tarpon, plenty of power and backbone.

Asked by Javi 3 years ago

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

Yes, the 6'6" or 7' MH rod would pair up nicely with that reel.

Asked by Greg 3 years ago

How many eyes are on the 7’ m/h rod. How does this rod compare to the TDSSC701MHT 7’ m/h?

Thanks, Greg

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

The 7' comes with 9 guides plus the tip. As far as comparisons go, it would be very similar to the MH Silver Hook rod.

Asked by Greg 3 years ago

Would the Penn Squall 20, match with this rod in the med/heavy 7’ model

Austin Kearney 3 years ago

Yes, the 20 size would pair well with the MH.

Although Shimano does not list these specs for the Boat rod series, i would assume the XH model would have a max rating between 4-6oz

Asked by Sonny 4 years ago

Would a avet SX or MXJ mate well with the rod?

Bass O 4 years ago

Hello, The Avet SX would pair better,
