Purchased this rod for local inshore fishing in Southern California mostly Catalina Island
Very surprised at how well it works perfect for lite line fishing for Calico Bass, Bonita and Baracuda for the price you can't beat it

SHIMANOS HIDDEN GEM

At first look this a weird rod, the distance from the reel seat to the first guide is kind of odd, and the butt of the rod looks like a beefy surf rod. This reel shocked me on how well it performed for the price. despite it's beefy nature, it is a very whippy and surprisingly sensitive rod, and it has the power to match up with it.

I purchased this rod while on a trip read more in Sarasota Florida, just looking for cheap rod to use for 2 weeks and I fell in love. I was able able to throw a small 3" paddle tail by docks and finesse black sea bass from underneath. The rod also sends top waters 50 miles out when you cast. I was able to wrangle in a 35" Snook with ease.

I could see why this rod is cheap, because it is a bit odd. It's not really an inshore rod or a surf rod, and is not a jigging rod. The construction is wierd but it works, I'm not a fan of cheap subpar gear, but this may be a gem.

Great Rod for the price

Great rod for a low price. I use this rod all the time. Light but strong.

Not only is this rod a work horse but this 2 piece Shimano SAGUARO works nicely with the ounces I cast out. From live bait, lures, and leaders. This rod has already handled plenty of fish and is continuing to bring them in.

What size reel is best to pair with this rod

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Jason, Depending on what your fishing for I would recommend a 4000-5000 size reel. Specifically I would recommend a Penn FRCIII5000 Fierce III Spinning Reel. https://www.tackledirect.com/penn-frciii5000-fierce-iii-spinning-reel.html

Can i use sgs 70 ha for popping for gt ?

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 3 years ago

Hi Omar, From Shimano Customer Service "The SGS70HA model will be too light and possibly break on a large GT. The most affordable rod that will work as intended would be any of the shimano trevala series such as TVS60H. This series of rods are desig
