It is a nice and comfortable rod but the action is a little light in my opinion and the guides are a little weak... Also after two years and maybe 20 trips I am noticing some corrosion(rust) around both the guides and the real seat which is very disappointing… my rods usually go into read more the shower with me after a day on the boat and then get a towel dried… I know I'm weird!

So I bought the medium and loved it but felt a need for a second so I wouldn’t have to change setup just switch to the other rod. I picked up the medium heavy and it’s perfect! Jigging lures for rockfish and lings or live lining bait fish is amazing while on the lighter rod I shrimp fly and squid.

Really nice action!

Difference between Grappler & Game Type Slow J...
Grappker Slow J DOES NOT have
1st. Spiral-X Core - 2.5x stronger than Spiral-X (thanks to NANOALLOY? technology)
2nd. CI4+ reel seat
3rd. Stainless LKW guides / SiC rings
4th. When Grappler Slow J compares with Game Type Slow J, it is not a beginner rod, Game Type Slow J is much easier to use for the Slow read more Jigging beginners.

Rod Failure

Michael

I hooked a very large fish on the bottom with the medium heavy slow pitch. Goliath possibly?. Rod broke about 12 inches from the grip. My hands were never on the glass only on the grip. It was a clean break. Granted I was putting the heat to it. Who knows? I was disappointed. It was the 3 rd time out with not much fish caught on it. I thought with the spiral X rap it would have read more been tougher.

Great Rod!

Great rod, lifts fish well when slow pitching. Better with the heavier jigs. Awesome price from Tackle Direct!

Asked by Casey 2 years ago

For the medium light, it is rated for 260g max. What do you think the min effective jig size would be? I know Shimano doesnt list it on their site.
Thanks!

Brendan - TackleDirect Customer Service 2 years ago

Hi Casey, According to Shimano, There is no minimum jig size for the Shimano GRPSJC68ML Grappler Type Slow J Jigging Rod. As long as you dont exceed 260grams there should be no issue with your presentation. Please let us know if theres anything else

Alex Trommelen 4 years ago

Thanks for reaching out about our products!
The Shimano Grappler is not an acid wrapped rod. I don't believe that Shimano makes any acid wrapped jigging rods
