Built with Shimanos highest-performing rod blank technologies the Shimano Grappler Type Slow J Jigging Rods are purpose built for the Japanese inspired technique of slow pitch jigging. The Grappler Type Slow J features a moderate action conducive for slinging jigs upwards off of the seafloor and all...owing them to flutter downwards on slack line. These slow pitch rods are deceptively powerful with a deep parabolic flex throughout the entirety of the blank.Shimanos Grappler series rods are built from blanks utilizing their proprietary Spiral-X and Hi-Power X construction that produces the most powerful lightest and most sensitive blanks available. Spiral X construction consists of multiple layers comprised of carbon tape that tightly winds the blank diagonally in opposite directions resulting in enhanced torsional rigidity without adding extra weight. This construction results in an extremely responsive rod that allows for instant power transmission while casting or jigging and greatly enhances fish fighting capabilities. Spiral X blanks are 250% more structurally rigid and 180% less prone to twisting than standard blank construction. These cutting edge blanks are fitted with Fuji Alconite guides and an SiC tip along with comfortable EVA handles. The end result is a rod that delivers sharp and crisp precision control that is extremely light to reduce angler fatigue.

Nice rod...Shimano came close...
I love the spiral X and high power X technology... I have pulled up some big fish with this rod!!! It is a nice and comfortable rod but the action is a little light in my opinion and the guides are a little weak... Also after two years and maybe 20 trips I am noticing some corrosion(rust) around both the guides and the real seat which is very disappointing my rods usually go into… read more the shower with me after a day on the boat and then get a towel dried I know I'm weird!
Number two
So I bought the medium and loved it but felt a need for a second so I wouldnt have to change setup just switch to the other rod. I picked up the medium heavy and its perfect! Jigging lures for rockfish and lings or live lining bait fish is amazing while on the lighter rod I shrimp fly and squid.
Really nice action!
Best slow pitch rod owned! Great for Amberjack and another bottom species! Really nice action for jigs!

Rod Failure
I hooked a very large fish on the bottom with the medium heavy slow pitch. Goliath possibly?. Rod broke about 12 inches from the grip. My hands were never on the glass only on the grip. It was a clean break. Granted I was putting the heat to it. Who knows? I was disappointed. It was the 3 rd time out with not much fish caught on it. I thought with the spiral X rap it would have… read more been tougher.
Great Rod!
Great rod, lifts fish well when slow pitching. Better with the heavier jigs. Awesome price from Tackle Direct!

Hi Casey, According to Shimano, There is no minimum jig size for the Shimano GRPSJC68ML Grappler Type Slow J Jigging Rod. As long as you dont exceed 260grams there should be no issue with your presentation. Please let us know if theres anything else
Thanks for reaching out about our products!
The Shimano Grappler is not an acid wrapped rod. I don't believe that Shimano makes any acid wrapped jigging rods

The Medium and Medium Heavy models are currently on backorder but are expected to be available from Shimano in late April (subject to change).
Perfect you got it!
