This is a great insurer and flats rod for casting paddle tails and small jigs and spoons and live shrimp. Liked one so much I bought a second.

Great bang for buck

This rod is light, sensitive, and comfortable. Although, It would have been better for my needs if it was offered in extra fast action, it still provides incredible performance for the price.

Great kayak sheepshead rod

Casey

Great relatively inexpensive casting rod for kayak use. I like the 6’6 M for sheepshead fishing under docks and in tight quarters. The tip is sensitive enough to decent their subtle bites. I’ve only had the opportunity to take this out for one trip but was able to catch and bunch of shorts and a couple keepers, the biggest being 17”. While that isn’t a monster the rod seems read more to have plenty of backbone for when you do hook into something bigger with some fight.

Super sensitive rod with a strong backbone. Great inshore rod that can easily handle some larger fish.

If your gonna go budget reel and do the bg reel. stay under the 4K size it doesn’t fit in the reel seat.

Serious Inshore Rod

I purchased this rod for my 30 year old son and couldn't be happier. It handles Trout and Reds like a dream. I watched him fight multiple slot Reds and a mess of Specks on it and him and I both couldn't be happier.

Great for kayaks

I've used this rod a few times from my kayak, and it's a great rod for bay fishing. It seems to be holding up well and it's easy to cast with while seated.

Bait casting rod

This is my first Shimano rod and I would have to say this is probably one of the most versatile rods. Either flats fishing, pier fishing or surf fishing it works great. I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking of a new rod.

Well built

Good construction and components. Light and strong, using for salt inshore species and as freshwater slip bobber rod. Paired with Vanford 4000. Very pleased.

Best Rod Under $100

John O.

This is the only rod I own that is under $100 and it's one of my favorites. I have the 7ft Medium Light. Its very parabolic and whippy so its application specific but its got a great feel to it. I would compare it to rods in the $200-250 range. If it had a different reel seat i'd put it up against ones that are $300-400. The reel seat is comfortable, but you can see that is read more where they saved money on the manufacturing. Ive got it paired with a Vanford 3000 and they balance out very well. Ive caught anything from bait fish to 20lb redfish on it. It has a good backbone. I'm not sure what the other models of this rod feel like, but I strongly recommend this one.

Asked by Miguel 4 years ago

So I was told that some rods like castaway are spine aligned, so guides are put in the best location. Are these rods spine aligned?

Bernie De Graaf 4 years ago

Hello Miguel, after checking on these rods they are spined. The rods checked did not twist when pressure was applied.

What power rod would match with a Curado 201i for inshore reds, trout, and flounder? Mostly jig heads and soft plastics or mud minnows under a cork or on the bottom.

Alyssa Madosky 5 years ago

Either the 6ft 9 or 7ft Medium power would be perfect for the species you are targeting and the curado would fit perfectly.
