Great rod for price

light weight. very strong and super sensitive. i have the 9ft medium heavy paired with a stradic 5000FK. awesome combo. its my light surf set up and i really love using it. has a narrow reel foot..so anything larger than a 5000 size reel would be a little hard to fit on the reel seat. lure weight is rated to 1.5oz. but it throws 2-2.5oz like a champ.

Plenty of muscle to fight what's on the other end of the line

Had several fish on this rod. Would have landed them if my knots were as good as the rod. Looking forward to many years of use on the Salmon River. Steelhead and salmon beware!

Another high-quality Shimano product

Brought in a decent sized salmon with this rod. Matches up nice with the Shimano Stratus reel I purchased for it. No salmon is safe.

Light tackle surf setup.

This rod paired nicely with the stradic ci4+ 3000. Very light combo that I intend use for light tackle surf fishing the Chesapeake bay and Atlantic beaches. I've thrown jig heads with gulp, kastmasters, spoons etc. It handles the light stuff well and can throw an once+ If needed. I'm spooled with 20lb 832 and it casts great. I could probably even step down to 10lb braid for the read more lighter lures. I've caught schoolie stripers to 20inches on the 2 occasions I've used it. I have heavier tackle but never really hook up on anything that large except cownose rays so going light makes the fight more exciting. Great rod for walking the shoreline for schoolie stripers, flounder, croaker, bluefish etc. just make sure to wash after use since it's not really built for heavy surf use. Minus one star because I didn't care for the guild tip. Would be nice to have the smoother guides frames that doesn't get the line hung up on it.

Very affordable

Great for throwing 1 oz lures. It gets them way out there. Highly recommend it & it's affordable!

Bought this rod to replace my 8'6" berkley air, and I couldn't be happier! I use it for surf fishing in Southern California. Perfect length to help get my lc flash minnow out there past the break!

Shimano Clarus Salmon & Steelhead Spinning Rods Questions and Answers

Ask a Question

Asked by Cliff 4 years ago

Why are there separate line weight for braid and mono, and what is the braid estimation based on?

Alyssa Madosky 4 years ago

The braid and mono recommendations are different due to braid and mono having different diameters. The braid is a guide for what line is recommended for the rod and also a estimate of how heavy the blank is.

Asked by Lloyd 5 years ago

Is this rod not designed to be used with braid?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

This rod is designed to use both mono and braid.

The foregrip on the shm-3424 is longer and is available to order the shm-2137 is discontinued
