This rod is a beast. Paired it with a Talica 12 with 65lb braid and 40LB mono. Caught YFT, Bonito and Dorado with live bait. On light troll, I've hooked Wahoo and Dorado. Good action and I've never felt like the rod wasn't strong enough to catch anything under 100#. Would love to hook up to something over 100# to see how the setup does. Setup is used in Baja on pangas and super read more pangas. Phenix is also located in Bellflower and really close from home. Employees there are super helpful when I stopped by pre-covid.

I bought this rod without seeing one in person. I later made it to a shop and compared it to many other comparable sized rods and i am very happy with my choice. I paired it with a Tiagra 30 but you could put almost any mid sized reel on it and be happy HX, BV perfect 80-100# rod.

Nice light but strong parabolic rod. Well balanced with Avnet MCR 5/2 for surface and deep work.

Due to the awesome grip pattern will not rip out of your hands on big fish.

So comfortable to handle this pole for offshore boating applications. Grip is awesome and pole action is superb and very strong. My whole quiver has been upgraded to the Phenix Axis for offshore fishing. Cast/flylining/jigging. These poles do it all.

So far so good

Got this rod for bottom fishing. Love the composite construction, and very similar to my calstar 700h. The Phenix is a bit heavier in weight, and handles 16+ ounces of lead better than the calstar. Have only hung a 15lb black grouper so far, but so far so good. Real test will be next week fishing the pulley ridge area in the GOM.

Asked by jon 5 years ago

I'm looking at the 820h and 820xh rods. How much do these rods weigh?

Bernie 5 years ago

When these rods become available we'll be able to get a measurement on the weight for you.

Asked by Paul 6 years ago

I’m Looking to pair the 720H with a Fathom 40nldhs for king mackerel. Would the rod be too stiff for a live bait application?

Chris 6 years ago

No, it would still be sensitive enough for live bait applications

Asked by Gee 6 years ago

Will the 40-100lb axis paired with a penn fathom 40 2-speed be sufficient enough to fight 100-200lb tuna? Or should I go with the fathom 60 2-speed?

Donald 6 years ago

I would advise going with the Penn Fathom 60 for the application your intending on using the combo for.

Asked by bay 7 years ago

what is the line rating for briad or mono?

Donald 7 years ago

Can the 8'2 30-80 lb rod handle stopping a snook a Juno beach pier in Florida ?

Kaitryn 9 years ago

If rated at 30-80lbs, then I would say yes, it should be able to stop a snook.
