Seems like it's perfect for my intended use.
The price was right, and this looks like exactly what I was looking for, which was a good quality, heavy duty party boat rod to pair up with a Penn Fierce III 5000 for my wife and kids to use when I take them out, rather than renting whatever previously abused stuff was on the boat.
We haven't gotten around to taking a boat trip since I got it, but we did use it from a pier…

a few times while on a family vacation recently and it was very nice.
It's sturdy enough and not too heavy. An added bonus is that it looks nice.
I expect to be seeing how it handles some big blues and stripers very soon, but do far it's looking like it'll be up to the task with no problem.
Good Rod
Purchased the 7' medium-light. Really wasn't expecting much because of the price but I have to say it exceeded my expectations by far. Rod is well made and performs great.
Very nice rod.
I have the 7ft med/light 2pc, very good rod for price!! just got the 7ft med . The med/ light has nice backbone can't wait to rib lips and bend tips on the med paired up w a quantum alliance PT 40!!
7ft 1/4-1oz spinning
i really liked this rod last season, i paired it with a battle 3 dx 4000. i used it for fluke and stripers, it handled itself great.
one night i put 14 25+lb stripers on this combo, i was even getting pulled down to my knees despite it being a medium rod.
Penn Squadron
Looks like a good rod. Looking forward to use it
Great all around rod
For the price you cannot beat it, solid all around rod, bought this as a beater rod to keep in the car and when i opend it was suprised at the quality, get one while they are in stock
Quality exceeds the price
I really don't have many complaints about this rod, especially when you consider the price. I've caught many good sized fish on the medium light class of this model and can't complain about it's ability to hold up. Good action that allows me to cast lightweight baits a good distance.
Penn squadron III
I recently purchased a penn squadron III inshore spinning rod for a trip to Connecticut with my family. I was very pleased with how quickly I received the rod from tackle direct. I even spoke with a representative who helped me make sure I would have the rod in time and gave me some tips for my trip. My rod arrived well packaged and with plenty of time before my trip. It wasnt… read more until I was on the trip that I discovered the reel seat on the rod did not line up with the line guides. I was able to make it work however I was very disappointed in the quality control from penn. I have multiple products from penn and have been impressed in the past, however I was very disappointed with this product. I dont think it would be worth it to send back due to shipping costs. I cant speak highly enough of tackle direct but penn not so much.
Great rod.
Have only fished them for a month or so but have hooked a landed both King Mackerel and Bonita on them as well as mangrove snapper. Plenty of back bone and a relatively sensitive tip. Great deal for the money and great for a chartboat rod.
Hi Martin, your reel will fit the Penn Squadron III Inshore casting rod well for a variety of applications. The 20 lbs mono will work fine in this setup however may limit your line capacity if you need a lot of line for whatever you may be using. I
Hello Damon,

Unfortunately all of these models are 1 piece rods

Clarence,
You would be better off with a medium or medium heavy rod and a 5000 or 6000 size reel for the fish you would be targeting in the Caribbean. Please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.
