Best Bang for you Buck!

I bought this rod as a tester to see if I wanted to get into the Surf rod business. I was quite surprised at how light it is...

Great pole for the price

Purchased this pole to heave the heavier lures that I have for the Cape Cod Canal. The lightweight allows me to fish all day and the length allows me to cast out further than I have even been able to reach. Pole is strong enough to endure the canals flow but reactive enough to let me feel the hits. Love it.

Great rod

I paired this with a Penn Fierce II reel, and tried it for the first time on the LBI, Jersey shore. I had onshore winds up to 15-18 mph, and was able to cast my rig a good distance. First cast, I caught a 21" striper. They weren't biting that weekend for anybody, and that was it for me. I am no expert-this is my first real venture & investment in surf fishing equipment, and considering read more the casts I was making and the feel of the rig in the water & the fish on the line, I think I made a great choice.

Performs well, exactly what as expected

I have the 1551 model paired with my penn Fierce. The rod performs well, cast smoothly and you get a good distance with braid. action is great to pull in those bigger fish. I mainly fish for strippers during my trips to Hampton beach and this rod performs just the way I expected.

Asked by John 4 years ago

What is the weight for the 8 feet rod?

Bernie De Graaf 4 years ago

The 8 foot medium has been discontinued we are unable to get a weight on that for you

Asked by Chislon Nelson 5 years ago

Is the 8ft medium rod good for casting lures and plugs?

Bernie De Graaf 5 years ago

The 8 foot would be good if you don't have to cast a great distance but would be good for plugs up to 3oz in weight

Asked by Dominic Elizabeth 5 years ago

Whats the line weight for braided lines? and will the Penn Spinfisher V SSV5500 Spinning Reel be good for it?

Bernie 5 years ago

The ssv5500 would be a good fit for any of these rods and Penn does not list a braid rating only mono.

Asked by Mike Sanchez 6 years ago

Hello! Could you please tell me how much does each section of a 10ft squadron measure? thanks in advance

Bernie 6 years ago

Hello Mike, the rod is a 50/50 split each piece measuring 61 1/2 inches

Asked by Jimmy 7 years ago

I surf fish for drum. I typically throw weights between 4 - 8 ounces plus bait. What length spinning rod would you suggest to give me the greatest distance. I have the Penn battle 8000 reels and the fierce series reels

Bernie 7 years ago

I would lean towards the 12 foot squadron. You throw 4-8 oz lead with bait and that's exactly what that rod is rated for.

Asked by Mark 7 years ago

I fish for striper using fluke swimbaits 1oz to 2 oz and throw topwaters 3 oz which rod is best

Donald 6 years ago

The Penn SQDSFII1530S10 Squadron II Surf Rod - 10 ft. would be a good match for the size lures you will be using.

Asked by Justin 6 years ago

What is the best size reel too pair with the 8 foot medium rod?

Devon 6 years ago

An 8 foot rod would pair well with a 4000-5000 size spinning reel.

Asked by Mike 6 years ago

Recent got the 10 foot MH rod, trying to figure if my spinfisher v 4500 would be a good fit for it?

Donald 6 years ago

The Penn Spinfisher 5500 would be the better fit paired with a 10' rod for surf fishing.

Asked by pw 7 years ago
