Paul Bunyans trout rod…

This thing is a beast… Looks like an ugly stick on steroids… But it's way stronger…

I love this surf rod

I fish the surf in the Gulf of Mexico and use this rod frequently. It casts bait and lures very well. You can't beat the price.

i this rod at the CCC paired to a tsunami evict 5000 and 50lb power pro super slick

this is a very stiff rod, much more so than the Prevail. but because of this it does have good turning power. it also casts very nice.

Sturdy and dependable

Donald

I purchased this along with a SpinFisher 5500 LC and have used the rig for about a year now. The rod has performed wonderfully and has pulled in some 30"+ drums and a good size and very stubborn stingray that did not want to get off the bottom. Guides have not shown any wear and the shrink rubber grips have worked as expected. It is fairly sensitive for a larger rod. Sometimes I read more can feel what is happening on the bottom when not in a heavy current. I can cast very well with this and had no issues in any way. I would recommend for a mid range surf rod.

Great Surf Rod

12’ conventional is a great surf rod for bait fishing. Have two and love them both. Nice feel casting for distance, and also handles large fish with ease.

One of my favorite surf rods

I now have two of these rods in the 12ft I have both paired with a s
Spinfisher V. It has handled pretty much everything I've thrown at it from sharks up to 6.5ft and down. Great rod especially for the price.

Nice rod. Reasonably priced especially if you get it on sale. Decent quality guides. Light weight construction. Throws 4 n bait perfectly. Has plenty of backbone to handle large fish in the surf.

The pole is very good

This site - Tackle Direct- is a great organization. I was in their beautiful NJ shop recently, and the people are top notch. I used the rod for the first time along the jetty at Brigantine- it cast very well - and good feel while the blue was chewing on my plastic sandeel. Just below the hook. I felt every chomp. I haven't landed a fish yet, but I'm really happy with this rod.

I bought the 12' Penn Battalion to pair with my Van Staal VS300 and this rod is amazing I use it for throwing big chunks of bunker with 4-8oz of lead it has a lot of power and I defiantly recommend it for people that are on a budget or don't want to spend a lot because you can't beat the price.

Fantastic rod. great value.

nice sensitivity for a $100 2 piece rod. Will make catching schoolies a blast, but will also give you the power to bring in a keeper.

Ask a Question

Asked by Joe 7 years ago

what is the butt length of the 11ft. rod...type D?

Donald 7 years ago

The butt length from the bottom of the reel seat to the bottom of the rod is 25 1/2 inches.

Asked by Mike 5 years ago

I am looking for a versatile surf fishing spinning combination. What rod woul you recommend to the penn 4500 or 5500 slammer IIl reel? Prefer a rod under $200.

Chris 5 years ago

5500 is better suited and any of the battalion rods will work fine. Of course it depends on the bait size and how far out you will be casting

Asked by Noah 6 years ago

I have a penn slammer 10500 will the 12 foot heavy rod be a good match? I will be using 80lb braid. I was also looking at the penn carnage surf rods. Will the 12 foot heavy be a better match? Thank you

Donald 6 years ago

The 12' H Penn Carnage II surf rod would be a better fit for the Penn Slammer 10500 for the application your intending to use the combo for.

Asked by KB 6 years ago

Looking to match rod with spinfisher v 5500, for surf fishing. what would be your suggestion?

Donald 6 years ago

The Penn BATSF1220S10 10ft 2pc Spinning Surf Rod would match the best pairing it with the Penn Spinfisher V 5500.

Hola estoy pensando comprar una varilla Penn para la costa, playa o muelle que pueda manejar piezas 30 libras o más que varilla me recomienda y con cuál carrete la puedo aparejar. Estaba pensando en 9 o 10 pies, acción rápida ..

Donald 6 years ago

Penn BATSF815S90 9ft 2pc Spinning Surf Rod sería la mejor varilla para la aplicación que usa.

Asked by Tanay 6 years ago

May I use the 12' model with slammer III 9500?

Devon 6 years ago

Yes the 12 foot Spinning model will fit a 9500 size Slammer III.

Asked by Fishmaster 6 years ago

What is the power and action for the 8ft and 9ft rod?

Donald 6 years ago

The 8' model is a Moderate Fast and Medium Power. the 9' model is the same, Moderate Fast and Medium Power.

Asked by Ian 6 years ago

I am considering a pair of PEN-1378 10 conventional rods. Are Avet SX a good fit for this model. If not could you suggest a suitable reel. Thank you.

Devon 6 years ago

The Avet SX would be a good option to pair with a 10' surf rod. You may even want to step up the size to an MXL, which may be a better size match for a surf rod.

Asked by Ian 6 years ago

I am considering buying a pair of the PEN-1378 10ft conventional rods. I have a pair of ABU ambassadeur reels. Would these be a suitable match for me to use at the moment? Could you also give me advice on whether the Avet SX MC would be a good match for t

Asked by bonitSZS 6 years ago

What size should i pair my penn slammer 3 6500. Most surf fishing with lures and cut baits.

Devon 6 years ago

A 6500 would balance best with the 11' and 12' models, but the 10' models would not necessarily be a mismatch. Model number BATSF1530S11 would be the best fit in my opinion.

Asked by Jim 6 years ago

What size of the Diawa BG Reels would you recommend for the 8' Battalion Surf Rod? Will use for general fishing in the gulf, off a pier and in the surf casting lures and bait. Thank you

Donald 6 years ago

The 3500 and 4000 size BG's would be best sizes pairing it with the Penn Battalion 8'.

Devon 7 years ago

The 10500 is one of the largest spinning reels on the market. It wouldn't necessarily be a mismatch on an 11 foot rod, but a 12 footer would probably balance out better with a 10500.

Asked by Sam 7 years ago

Is a 4000 battle 2 big enough for the 9ft model?

Devon 7 years ago

The Battle II 4000 would be a good match for a 9 foot rod.

Asked by md 5 years ago

what is the weight of this rod (10ft spinning model, lure weight 3/4-3oz)

Rebecca Redington 5 years ago

This rod weighs 15.2 oz's.

Asked by #HFF 7 years ago

I have a penn conflict 8000 would a 12 ft be a good balance?

Devon 7 years ago

I would generally suggest a 6000 size Conflict for a 12 foot surf rod, but an 8000 would not be too large, in fact it may even more more appropriate if you are using a heavy line.

Asked by Bill Caskey 7 years ago

What is the split on these rods, thanks.

Donald 7 years ago

The Penn Battalion Surf Rods are a 50/50 split.

Asked by Andrew 7 years ago

Looking to mate this rod with a shimano torium 20 to cast lures and plastics off the beach? If this rod isn't suited any suggestions are welcomed.

Donald 7 years ago

The Penn Battalion Surf Rods would pair well with the Shimano Torium 20.

Asked by George 7 years ago

I was thinking about buying this rod for bass fishing. My question being will this be a good all round freshwater pole? And will it go good with a shimano sahara 3000 reel?

Donald 7 years ago

Normally you would be using shorter rods in the 6ft - 7ft range for freshwater fishing. if your fishing in freshwater areas that require you to cast further than normal this rod would be a good fit.

Asked by Mike 9 years ago

I have a battle 2 5000. I want to know which length battalion will give me the best balance?

Brandon 9 years ago

Hello Mike. Your 5000 reel would pair best with the 8 or 9 foot battalion models.

Asked by Matthew 9 years ago

Asked by Joe 9 years ago

Would the penn spin fisher 5500 be a good match for the 8 foot rod an if not what would be a good size reel

Customer Service 9 years ago

Yes, the 5500 will balance well with that rod. If you want to go larger, the 6500 is as large as we suggest going.

Asked by Jim 9 years ago

I am going to buy the new Penn Spinfisher long cast 7500 which of these rods would be a good match or would you recommend something different? I also am buying the Penn Battle 2 3000 or the 4000 which of these would be the best match. The 7500 long cast w

Customer Service 9 years ago

The 11' (PEN-1376) would be great with the 7500. Go with the Battle2 4000 and the Battalion 8' (PEN-1371) for the pier. For a boat, you will want a slightly shorter rod, around 7'.

Im looking at the Battalion surf rod 10ft . what's a better pair either a penn battle 5000 or 6000

Looking for the best penn rod for the fierce 2 for casting plugs for stripers.
Alyssa Madosky 4 years ago

Usually depends on the size reel you have. But a good length and power would be the 10ft 3/4-3oz because it will balance with most reel sizes and is a good range for casting plugs. Lastly, you will get more casting distance with a 10ft.
